Sorry for all you are experiencing, I will have to look it up .. I hope you can get some relief very soon. I found some information on this site.. You may already know the info, just trying to be helpful. healthline.com/health/hypna...
There isn't just one thing that can contribute to those hypnic jerks. I used to have them all the time. Now I only have them periodically & it's usually if I have been more physically active than usual, mentally and/or physically stressed or if I drink regular tea too close to bedtime as caffeine can contribute to them. I kept a journal when I was having so much trouble & it showed my neuro my daily habits that contributed to the problem. I also have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine which also helps alleviate the spasms because I am getting a better night's sleep. Lack of sleep can also cause hypnic jerks. Also, make sure you are fully hydrated every day. At least 64 oz of water is recommended. I don't always count just water, juices, caffeine-free teas, & caffeine-free sodas can count for approximately 8 oz.
So funny you mentioned tea because my husband bought some iced tea the same day these started and I drank a cup around 7pm. I probably should not have since my gastritis is flaring.
I am so sorry that this is happening to you. I also have them but nothing like you. This is the best place to say what you are going through since we are the only ones who can understand. I will be praying for you.
