Too cold

Update: I have power finally but the lack of electricity is effecting water to many homes in my area. My water is not off but the pressure is noticeably lower. I have 2 packs of water bottles left. I hope that’s enough for all of us for another day or two. I realize that this was an unforeseen event, but the powers that be did not prepare for this and we, the consumers, are paying the price.

I am down here in south Texas. We don’t do snow and single digit temperatures. No power since Sunday night which has meant no heat; no cooking; no NOTHING. it’s too dang cold; I can’t drive as all roads are closed and even if I could, as of yesterday my car will not start. My entire city has shut down.

Meanwhile, the cold makes my muscles tense up so I have been locked up for 24 hours now with no end in site.

Ok... I’m done venting

So sorry you are experiencing this! I've seen some pics of south Texas. You don't have winter clothing, coats, mittens, etc. because you 'never' need them. Here in the upper midwest, we don't like the subzero temps, but at least we can dress for the weather. I hope you get power back on so you can relax those muscles...maybe soaking in a warm bath? 🛀

So sorry, BUT look at it as an adventure! That's what I tell my son who now lives in Austin. He has made it through the rolling blackouts and was lucky enough to when they gave up alternating power, because it kept destroying the power grid trying to restart, well, 2 blocks from him, no power. He still has electricity, but no water. No gas. He's not going anywhere. As he can work from home, though both work locations are without power last I heard. My brother in law, now retired. A nuclear engineer, told us, and I have since read. Windmills freezing. the "original cause" only accounts for a single digit % of Texas power. They work fine here in the midwest, where it is far colder. Nuclear, also off line because controls not working in the cold. Gas, natural and petro also failing due to the cold and lack of preparedness in Texas. I used to live in El Paso, which really isn't Texas we were always told by the rest of the state. BUT, El Paso lost power for about 3 hours, then back on because they are linked to the multi-state grid. The rest of Texas, no. They don't need anyone else's grid help. Anyway, Frozen fish from the fish tank are really not edible. Besides, if like my son's friends, they have lots of frozen food. But no way to cook it.

Doesn't anyone camp anymore? We spent years camping in a travel trailer weekends in Wisconsin at below zero temps. Yes we had some electric. Limited by the power cord. And water. What we brought in our blue jugs with spigots. Lots if warm underware....

Campfires outdoors. Not indoors. Like all the stupid deaths "a result of the cold"? Using your auto exhaust to heat your house. And charcoal briquits in the house? Death due to the cold?

It's an adventure! Glad not me. I have to shovel snow again, but the piles are too high to throw on top of anymore. So I'm having to cart it down the block. Life in shoveled tunnels? It's all good. It's an adventure! And if the the power goes out. Still have a camp stove in the basement. Should I fill the bathtub and blue jugs now, or wait till the power starts failing? But we're on a grid.

Stay warm! Good luck. Sorry, no longer have the a travel trailer up north which does a comfortable 15 below zero winter night. But, still have the camping essentials!
