I was recently diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia but I have a lot of MS symptoms not yet explained. I am going to revisit my dr soon but my understanding is TN is an issue with the mylenin sheath around the 5th cranial nerve, so my question is..is TN part of MS? Is there an overlap and can TN become MS or vice versa ? Thank you

Trigeminal Neuralgia and MS overlap?
I don't have it but after looking it up it looks like a symptom that people have had on here.
Hopefully someone can answer your question
I have TN. It can be due to MS or it can have other causes such as a blood vessel abutting the trigeminal nerve. The say mine due to MS.
Interestingly, I have a blood vessel abutting the trigeminal nerve on the side not affected by TN 🤷♀️
Initially Tegretol helped. Several yrs ago I had gamma knife surgery which has kept the TN away 🙏
Interesting, they mentioned I had a blood vessel abutting the nerve too. I have tons of questions for my doctor now. I hope the pain continues to stay away for you.
My understanding is that TN frequently occurs with MS. In the same year as my MS diagnosis, TN struck for months (it started abruptly, then gradually abated), then another totally different symptom led to the MS diagnosis. I don't believe TN "becomes" MS, but in my case is/was due to damage to the myelin on the cranial nerves
