A researcher with a sad sense of humor, Jesmcd2
π€£ππ€£ I guess! I mean I would rather mice be tested 1st, but how do they get it? Then, do they give it an MRI to?π€ Just to make sure?π
Ha! I used to joke with my daughter and ask what if lab rats had a predisposition to cancer, MS, etc.
If they can give mice ms surely they know what causes it? What happened to diamond art?
animals can have the same disease that people have. they are not given a disease they're born with it.
You got me started on researching mice! I found this article that tells how mice get MS. I couldn't make it a link so you will have to copy & paste in the search bar.
The journal link posted by hairbrain4 is very interesting, and does explain how the the mice and the rats and the monkeys, DO get MS,
or at least parts of it! Thanks!
I hadn't, until you mentioned it. But that is interesting. Supposedly, MS isn't a virus or a bacteria, So how would you expos e a mouse to MS. Maybe by injecting it with the blood of a MSer?
EAE is not MS and there are different methods used to cause and evaluate it. The research study usually publishes what was used, how many mice were affected, the observations and conclusions. Itβs very interesting when a drug fails because it kills a monkey or rabbit.
Ok I said mice! Not thinking any other animals πππ π that makes me sadππ€ππ¦
It is sad and I am sorry that their hasnβt been a better way. Penicillin killed the rabbit and we did not use that drug for a long time because it was assumed to be deadly to humans.
Oh my
Mice don't get MS. There is no animal model for MS. The closest thing is a disease called EAE (experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis--also sometimes called experimental allergic encephalomyelitis). When you hear about MS being studied in mice, the disease that is being studied is actually EAE.
