Is it more optimal to take Ampyra every 8 hours instead of 12?

Hi everyone!

I have been taking Ampyra for about ten years every 12 hours, but I see now by reading an article that it may be optimal to take the medication every 8 hours. Does anyone take this medication like this and do you see benefits?

Unfortunately, I can't take ampyra anymore because it has the propensity for seizures, which my last 🏥 admission for 10 days. I'm not saying this will happen to everyone, but it did to me😞!

Therefore, I would ask your neuro, though I know I want 1st hand experience"s , myself!!

So I'm probably not the one to ask,but I understand!

God Bless you🙏

Thank you so much. I called my neurologist office and I received a call back not to take Ampyra every 8 hours. They do not recommend it. He says I can try every 10 hours, though. I figure I will just keep taking it every 12.

I'm not sure why you would take it every 8hrs. It's supposed to be every 12

You’re absolutely correct.

It's always worth checking to what else has already been posted - this thread was only a few days ago about the exact same subject.

Have a read - that might support what your neurologist has already advised you to do. Also, please could you post a link to the article you read - it would be interesting to see how credible the publication and authors are.

I will have to check for it. If it was an email, then I should find it.

Looks like I couldn’t find it. It’s somewhere out there.

I take it around 7-8 in the morning and around 3. So about 8 hours apart. It was wearing off a little too early before the second dose. So my neuro suggested it.

Admittedly sometimes I’m as late as five or six if I forget at three!

I take every 12 hours bc I’d be worried about seizures

It was my neuro who recently suggested I take it 8 hours apart. That still means only twice in 24 hours. NEVER three doses in a 24 hour period!

She said I was sleeping through the benefit of the second dose by taking it at 8am and 8 pm.

I have searched for new information regarding Ampyra dosage and everything I found still says 12 hours apart. I may go to 10 hours apart but am not comfortable with 8 hours apart.

Would you please post a link to the article you found? Thanks

I feel bad not being able to find the article again. However, my neurologist said to try every 10 hours, but I will just take it every 12 as usual.

Thank you so much. I knew I read it somewhere. I thought it was an article I read somewhere. Ok, now I know I’m not completely crazy. I was searching my old emails, too.

It turns out it wasn’t an article. Someone mentioned it on this site.

I take Dalfampridine. The common brand of Ampyra. I take it every 12 hours and it hasn't caused me any problems. I have seen changes in my walking. It has helped.

That’s excellent news and I hope it continues. I have been on it for many years and I have not had any problems.
