Weight
I’ve lost weight since being diagnosed in 2004 but I cannot say it’s solely because of MS. I think it’s because of different factors. Because of MS I stopped excessive drinking, I started watching how and what I eat and that alone I think caused most of my weight lost. I was a firefighter working and partly living in the firehouse which caused me to eat foods rich in fats, sugars, carbohydrates, proteins and others because you need those things for energy when you’re working an incident, but once I left the firehouse living I stopped eating like that and that and I slowly started losing the weight.
My heaviest at the the firehouse was in the 250s and once I left the firehouse I got down to the 220s. I got diagnosed and transferred to the training academy and got down to the low 200s. I retired in 2008 weighing 205 and now I weigh 185lbs which is ideal weight for me even though technically I’m still overweight but I feel and look good.
I have to admit I lost weight.
I dont know how I lost weight I didnt do anything different in my eating habits I actually eat a lot now.
Now I just tell the dr I weigh a certain amount because I was told by one of my doctors my weight had to go up or they would change my meds. the last time my meds changed I had gotten really sick. So I say my weight is one thing when its not.
Be careful with that because I think weight is an indicator on your health and stability.
Im am aware of that, Im at a stable weight. I have been this weight for 4 years with no issues. I just cant gain weight and I refuse to adjust meds to my current weight because of what happened the last it was adjusted it was a complete disaster and recovery was a complete nightmare.
I hope your doctor is aware of this and is monitoring you. Medications can decrease one's appetite, but that's a significant amount of weight loss, unless you have changed your diet quite a bit or have increased your activity quite a bit. Please check in with your doctor.
I have lost 28lbs in 2 years and I think it is due to ms. I do not like certain foods anymore, my appetite has changed, food does not excite me anymore. 😊
I hear that. I went on the Wahls diet when first diagnosed 6/2016 and went from 180 to 118 in 2 years. I got so burned out on veggies and fruits lost all appetite for them. Now nothing taste good. So, I make myself eat whatever sounds good and I am back up to 135. Lost my appetite for everything. Another thing MS took away. The worst thing it is taking away is Me. My funny personality has been replaced with an angry personality. My do anything attitude has been replaced with a do nothing attitude. My spirituality has been replaced with carnality. My goals have been replaced with dead ends. My friends have been replaced with electronic gadgets. My 3 course meals have been replaced with the instant pot. My Bible has been replaced with eKindle. My prayers have been replaced negative self talk. My 300book library of inspirational and self help and nutritional books have collected an inch of dust, along with the rest of my home. Music. Music. Music remains. Only music remains as a source of joy. Source of inspiration. Source of contact with God. Source of conversation with Jesus. I hope He hears me. Love my music. Play it all night cause I don’t sleep. I drift from awake to sleep til Annie insists with barking I get out of that bed. Thank God for my little orphan Annie. Thank God for you, too.
LOSE weight?the first thing I did was gain weight!when something bad happens in life gotta have comfort food right? mmmmmmm chocolate!
Me too pamgarner ! When I went for I think it was my 4th full Ocrevus infusion, the medical assistant said “oh, it looks like you put on some weight” My husband told me the look on my face 🤬 I wasn’t running around doing everything for everyone anymore since dx bc I couldn’t!! Well, it’s slowly coming off now that I can get around better (thanks ampyra) and I am guessing when I go for my 6th in May I will be very close to being back to my usual weight. The kicker is that I’ve usually been within my bmi🤔including currently except that one time which put me @ 25.96 ideal is <25! Gimme a break 🙄
My weakness is microwave Chocolate cake in a cup - about 5 min and instant warm comfort food!
i wasn't aware they made such a thing!I'll be looking
Well I'm 51 years old and hormones and ms my ms specialist taught me early on I was dx at age 28
Oh I love those cup brownies
DX in 2009 @ 210 lbs. Just weighed myself yesterday @ 141 lbs. At my lowest weight I was down to 137 lbs. Both my PCP and Neuro were always telling me I was malnourished or my BMI is to low.
I have changed my diet so many times during this time frame. Every MS friendly diet I come across I try. I don’t think I was consciously trying to loose weight because I wasn’t really that over weight. I think I was just so depressed and tired I didn’t really feel like eating much.
Because of the MS I really don’t eat foods just for enjoyment or taste anymore. Except for sweet potato pie. My wife made me that for Thanksgiving last year now I have to have that for every special occasion or holiday.
But mostly now I just look at food as fuel for my body and just eat normal portions and drink lots of water.
I too have lost weight. From 130 to 101. I'm only 5'2" so it looks like I'm vanishing. I don't care much about food either. None of my doctors are concerned, so I'm not either. Though I do look like an Auschwitz survivor. I guess MS did this. I can't think of another reason. Worries my husband though and that's depressing. Breakfast is my favorite meal, fried potatoes, egg and toast, yummy.
I have found out you have to be aware of the med side effect ms meds are strong strong strong
I'm only on Gabapentin, Norco and Trazadone. Guess that is a lot though.
I have gained weight, not a lot, but I'm not losing any.
