Really Scary Incident Yesterday

I had a really scary incident yesterday. I'd finally arranged to have the city waste department collect a large object on garbage day (today). I had a broken microwave oven that weighed about 50lbs and I had to get it to the curb by 7am. My partner has real trouble breathing, so I didn't want to make him help. Besides, it would've been dark by the time he got home from work. So I was going to do it myself. Now, I'd worked in receiving in many of the jobs I'd had in the past, 5 lbs was doable. Couldn't take my cane, of course. But I lured my cat into his "very special room", opened the front door, picked the microwave up and started on the journey to the curb. I actually made it down the front stoop and remained upright. About halfway down the driveway (and I've got a driveay a tow truck driver said, "This isn't a driveway! It's a landing strip!" I had to set the microwave down on a retainer wall, to shake my cramping arms. Well, I picked it up again and managed to step out of the rocks and still remain upright. But when I almost reached the end of the driveway, only a few feet from the curb, my head exploded! A blinding headache! I barely managed to set the microwave down and not fall down, myself. I was remaining on two feet, but holding my head which was just throbbing, almost making me sick to my stomach. I was still on my feet, but legs didn't feel steady, and without my cane I didn't know how I was going to get back to my house! Three teens walked down the driveway, passing by me. I asked for help, they just mumbled and crossed the street to the park. So I just stood there for several minutes, leaning on my neighbor's utility box. I was finally able to carefully get back to my house and inside. I went straight for the cabinet in the kitchen wher I keep my meds and took an asprin. And what was terrorfying me is how I'd had three brain bleeds last year. Two involved the most excruciating headaches I'd ever had! I don't know how painful the third one was because I was comatose by the time the ambulance pulled into the bay at the ER. While yesterday's headache was maybe the third worse headache I've ever had, fortunately I did the"smile" test for strokes in the bathroom mirror and nothing was drooping! Still, it scared the beejeebus out of me!

That is really scary. I would definitely call your doctor and let them know about this episode. Even if you didn't notice stroke symptoms right away, I would think the headache is something to report, given your history.

Take good care of yourself.

I emailed my cardiologist to let him know. I haven't contacted my neurologist yet, but will.

Geeze CrazyCatWom !!! I'm so glad your alright! And I'm glad you made it through the bleeds!

Now, what did you learn about this??? 1, kids are jerks.🀣 2, your a fool! For trying to carry a microwave down a landing strip! πŸ˜’πŸ˜•

And 3 DON'T DO IT AGAIN! πŸ™ˆ He-Woman!

πŸ€—πŸ’•πŸŒ

PS I would have done it to! 🀣

I know I suffer chronic stupidity. But I'm having a hard time understanding I just can't do things I used to do easily. I mean, I worked receiving at Barnes and Nobel, hefting 75lbs boxes of books! But then, I also used to teach ballet, tap, and modern dance. I used to do beadwork, play the piano and guitar, and type 120 wpm. Now it takes me 120 minutes to type 1 word! I just went too long (23 years) thinking I was so blessed and fortunate to not have my MS effect me as severly as so many others have. But my MS took a proverbial baseball bat to my head last year and I'm still just trying to come to terms with that.

Hmm stupid is not in my vocabulary. πŸ˜’ Although, doing stupid things, well I'm a pro at. 🀣 Next time, put it on card board, and drag it!! That's how I move all my big stuff. Like the dogs food! πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

Hope you're feeling better.

Have you heard about 2 new inventions? One is called a dolly and the other is called a wagon. I use these to carry large or heavy items farther than 2 steps. I got the heavy duty dolly at Wal-Mart and the wagon from a sporting goods store. I got the dolly when I was moving from one apartment to another and the wagon for going camping. I put all the camping gear in it to take back and forth from the camp site.

goatgal profile image

Absolutely right on! I have the same collection of aids: a dolly, two platform movers' dollies, a wheelbarrow, and a flatbed nursery wagon. I also have a long gravel drive and a hill. I couldn't live here without wheeled help!

Bodega1939 profile image

Me, too! Nuts to heavy lifting or loading or carrying. Even with all those aids it is often difficult. Sigh.

Definitely a frightening episode. Reflecting on your history, you probably should have this checked out by your neuro. Please.

I finally got to email my neurologist today. I don't think he will be quite as gentle in calling me stupid as my cardiologist was.

The headache thing would worry me with you're history. Yes, contact your doctor. You could have used the 4 wheel furniture doly, it only weighs a few pounds, put it on top, then pull it to the curb with the cord. Next time call, I'll be right over? Want another cat? It crys for food at the old times, pre the recent change, and it told me, he's not changing!

CrazyCatWom profile image
CrazyCatWomβ€’ in reply toMarkUpnorth

I really should get a furniture dolly. And since my oldest cat thinks he's a dog, maybe I could hook his harness up to the dolly, and yell, "Mush!"Maybe like a huskie he could drag the heavy object to the curb for me! But yeah, since he's my alarm clock, he'a been strolling into my room an hour late. He doesn't sing because of food--unless there's a hole in his kibble dish and he expects me to perform a magic trick and make the hole disapear. Being the opera singer that he is, his aria is usually to tell me he puked at the top of the stairs and, please, awaken and go clean it up.

That is scary. All that straining to carry that microwave to the curb also put straining on your brain from your heart having to pump blood faster to the rest of your body to keep you up right. Shame on those teens I hope they never need help that gets ignored.

With all of our self study and research skills we should have something to show for it. Some of our more seasoned MS warriors have probably earned at least a few degrees at this point. I might be shy of at least a BS detection degree. πŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

I was a certified pharmacy tech and also had gone to school for a medical assistant when all this made my life go sidewise.

But i totally agree - those teens are in for a rude awakening some day.

And go to ur neurologist asap

I have a bachelor degree for business information technology management. I was going to start my master's when i started having cognitive issues and couldn't wrap my head around the material within the time constraints. So i gave it up. If i could have a lot more time to try to complete the work then maybe...but that won't happen.

wow so sorry the teens didn't help you ...that is terrible...how all is better today ..be careful and next time maybe you could explain to the garbage company that you can't carry anything over a certain amount but need it taken away but you have to leave it at the door would they please pick it up for you for you are disabled...wow be careful...

CrazyCatWom profile image
CrazyCatWomβ€’ in reply totwooldcrows

Thanks for the tip! Ironically, I have two neighbors who would've helped if they'd been home. Next door is a fire-fighter who does yardwork for me without even asking. And next door to him is a guy who actually works for the city garbage department, who has helped with other trash issues of mine. So, unlike those teens, neither of those gentlement would've hesitated to help me get that microwave to the curb, or help me back to my house!

It feels so weird to me to like something so head spinning! I'm sorry , I'm wondering if this was a pseudo- exasterbations? The migraines my wife gets makes her continuously vomit, shake, sun light makes her worse, I see first hand the struggle ! Do u think this may have been triggered by something or have u had a pseudo-exhasterbation? I have slowly entered the real of the seizures again and it is scary, and when I am tippy toeing on my medical precipice there are shitty times and worse times but even Ebenezer can let Fezziwig enjoy the little things like Christmas Eve off to love and be loved by the only one's , besides my pit-family. I really hope ur headache/ migraine has went away, I know they are difficult. Now recover and then it hopefully not bother you again for a few years at least!

I'm getting caught up on emails. Have you spoken to your doctors yet? I sure hope so!

CrazyCatWom profile image
CrazyCatWomβ€’ in reply tomrsmike9

I contacted my cardiologist by email (he replied) and neurologist also by email (haven't gotten a response yet), and my primary care Dr. was told by my "Wellness Nurse". So everyone who needed to know now know.

mrsmike9 profile image
mrsmike9β€’ in reply toCrazyCatWom

And they're not having you be checked out because.........

CrazyCatWom profile image
CrazyCatWomβ€’ in reply tomrsmike9

My cardiologist said he thought carrying something heavy for a long distance made my bloodpressure shoot up which was very dangerous for someone with my history of brain bleeds. So just don't do that again. Now, I still haven't gotten a response from my neurologist yet. He may have a very different response just like he did when I was in the hospital last year and the neurology department had kind of a little battle with the cardiology department. (Neurology won that one!)

mrsmike9 profile image
mrsmike9β€’ in reply toCrazyCatWom

He doesn't think you should be checked out?

CrazyCatWom profile image
CrazyCatWomβ€’ in reply tomrsmike9

My cardiologist didn't say adnything about meding to come in or get a CT scan or MRI. Again, my neurologist may say otherwise. He may order an MRI anyway because I already have an appointment scheduled for December for my six-month follow up. H e just might order the MRI early.

mrsmike9 profile image
mrsmike9β€’ in reply toCrazyCatWom

I sure hope so! Let us know what happens! I'd call the neuro again! Are you feeling better now?

CrazyCatWom profile image
CrazyCatWomβ€’ in reply tomrsmike9

I'm feeling much better now. If I don't hear from my neurologist soon, I'll contact him again, Monday. The poor man is crazy busy! 4 days a week, he sees patients in his office in the hospital's neuroscience center, ICU, and ER. On the 5th day, he is teaching med students neuro stuff and working on research. So on weekends he's catching up on all his calls, emails, and once a month gives a talk regarding MS. And this is his retirement! So, now that the only thing left over from my stupidity is the sore muscles in my arms, I'll give him this weekend to respond.

mrsmike9 profile image
mrsmike9β€’ in reply toCrazyCatWom

Busy or not... He could at least tell a nurse what to tell you and they could do it.

CrazyCatWom profile image
CrazyCatWomβ€’ in reply tomrsmike9

I didn't get a chance to contact my neurologist, today. But at about 5:30 pm, while I was in the bathroom . . . um, doing what I do alot with MS . . . I got a phone call, from my neurologist! And yep! Once again, his response was NOT the same as my cardiologist. One, he was anoyed my cardiologist had never ordered an MRI regarding my brain bleeds (I didn't remind him HE was involved in that MRI regarding my brain bleeds.) Two, my neurologist didn't think carrying 50 lbs should have caused me to experience a "thunder clap headache"! (I really like how he described it that way!) So he's really concerned about it, and said, "I want to see your brain! So I'll be ordering an MRI for you, and I'll call you back once I get a date."

So I'll post as soon as I find out when I get to be stuffed into a tube and listen to that porno disco beat. Uuggggg!

mrsmike9 profile image
mrsmike9β€’ in reply toCrazyCatWom

Ugh, but YEAH! You got him to listen!!! I've been concerned for you so I'm glad someone is listen and take this seriously! Do tell how it turns out!
