Everybody Watch Out!

To my knowledge I have always been a bit of a cluts but these days, I can't seem to catch a break. I have knocked some part of my body up against something so many times I can't keep count and I am purple all over the place. In addition to that, I have increased my falling lol. Just Monday when walking down the stairs to late stay to pick up my daughter from school, down I went lol. One heel completely off, the other heel hanging on by my big toe, car keys landed somewhere and I could do nothing but just lay there for a minute. The guy going up the stairs got out of the way just in time and all of the kids came running to my aid. I laugh but at the same time I'm becoming a bit unsure of myself. Is this a sign that my MS is somehow worsening? Am I really just a super cluts? My thoughts have just been going on and on and on about this. Is anyone else having difficulties staying upright or noticed when a fall every now and again turned into something more serious?

I would definitely alert your neurologist about this. And please get a bubble suit! Ouch!

I'm sorry about the falls and hope you haven't seriously hurt yourself.

Hi greaterexp !!!! I just had an appointment with my neurologist on the 24th but thanks to good old #8 I forgot to bring it up since I didn't fall that day lol. Honestly, I notice things but I'm still not sure when to bring it up or when to just deal with it. Up until my diagnosis in 2017 I just dealt with things and kept on going but now that I have been diagnosed, I'm unsure when or if to bring things up. I've been living with the thought of, it's just a part of having MS. Unless I can't do for myself I won't bring it up but if I can keep doing my everyday things then I'll do just that. I don't know if that's a good idea or not though. I have some pains but it's bearable and I'm being fitted for that bubble suit!!!

I keep a log of symptoms and just hand it to the neurologist at my regular visits. She can decide if it's relevant or not. Of course, I would let her know of anything significant or really different, but I think your falls are important to bring up. PT might be able to help you with balance, or a walking aid of some sort might be in order. Take care of yourself!

greaterexp Thank you, I have begun to keep a log. Although my next appointment isn't until 2020, I will be ready. I definitely will!!!!

If your having serious falls like that, I highly recommend you call the neurologist for at the minimum of a telephone consult. Falling down stairs is no joke and shouldn't be brushed off. You could break your neck or crack your skull doing that.

I've probably fallen more times than not the last several years. It sux when others bear witness, which shouldn't matter but that seems so trivial now that I'm a 33 y.o. man that can't work and now I'm walking with a cane by effect. I can walk without it but is more of a meandering!😁 (And the spill is eminent!)

I've been falling up and down stairs for as long as I can remember. And in the olden days, if I went into a department store, I was like a bull in a china shop, things falling in my path. Now, with a push cart, I can run into things in supermarket...oranges or apples tumbling in my wake. I thought I was a klutz, too. Now, I know that MS has damaged my depth perception (why I can't seem to park straight), and affected my coordination as well as leading to foot drop. It's been a year now, since my last fall. I attribute this lapse to constant vigilance everywhere I go (but my parking skills are no better).

Hi Taylorsmom I am so sorry to hear about your fall! Like the others say keep a journal or use the MSAA Manager app.

Do you think you might have an infection 😷 of some kind? That can throw our bodies out of whack very quick!

Give your neuro a call tho! Let them know!

Plz feel better soon!!🤗💕🌠

I used to fall a lot, even before my diagnosis of MS. I would check in with your neurologist. I started to have better balance after taking yoga and qi gong classes. it helped me be more mindful of my steps.

I finally learned I have to pay attention and concentrate when moving. So frustrating when I'm used to just going! But a cracked rib, collapsed lung and broken foot hammered home the point. I also am more clutzy when tired.

Sorry you are having a hard time!! The right side of my body gets a lot of bruising and it’s more often when I’m less rested.

Don't ignore these falls, Taylorsmom Call your neuro and let them know that you forgot to mention this fall at your last appointment. My balance and gait are better since I have been on Ocrevus, but I still have to consciously make an effort to not fall. PT, more restful sleep, or meds for a possible problem ~ your doctor should sort things out for you!

Keep Smiling,

Carole :-D

It might be balance, depth perception issue or other things that might or not be related to MS. You should talk to your doctor about it.

3-4 years ago before DX, I was missing steps or did not navigate uneven floor well. It was due to cataract clouting my vision field. (MS might already have been part of it).

Since I'm on Ocrevus, missteps are not as frequent but I've noticed that if I get slightly out of balance, especially backwards, my body does not have its automatic ability to get back in balance - no sure if it's slow reflex, lack of strength, etc due to MS.

Stay safe, hope you'll find a way to cope.
