In the Tasmanian university course on MS, there are some terrific links I would otherwise not have found. This link for exercise that is tailored to your specific abilities and disabilities looks really helpful, as it looks actually doable:

Good morning, since the weather has been nice here in Champaign,IL I have been walking in the mornings at least 2 or 3 times a week. If I can't get outside I do a light workout at home just to try and stay active when my body allows it.

I've been exercising steadily for about 26 years and boy am I tired!

Actually,it gives me more energy and when I have missed a few days,it can be harder to get moving again but I do it because the benefits are a very good thing.

I encourage everyone to do something as it improves your state of mind as well.

It doesn't have to be heavy weights in a gym setting or trying to run a marathon. There are exercises one can do if you have limited mobility.

Yoga is a good start for some and there are books and online sources that can get you started.

Here is a chair yoga routine that I will not do as it looks exhausting and extremely painful!

Just kidding! Now get moving :)

Here are the exercises from PT which I am doing: standing marching, sit to stand w/o support, Rhomberg Stance eyes closed, tandem stance (not very good at this one yet), ankle ABCs, standing heel raises, toe pickups. The ankle exercises are difficult and tiring. Every appointment I am given new, more difficult tasks. In addition, Because I have a 40' handicapped ramp (due to the elevation of the house), and because it has rails on both sides, I walk this 4 times keeping my feet close together, one foot in front of another (grabbing a rail when needed). I also am practicing going up steps, alternating feet. I still descend like a toddler, with both feet on the same step before stepping down to the next one. One of these days, maybe I can descend normally. My ankle still doesn't permit me to do a deep enough flex to do so. And exercise aside, I walk to the mailbox and back, to the greenhouse and back and the chickens and garden beds and back but at these times I am focused on not stepping into a rut, or tripping over a mole tunnel or fallen branch so I am demonstrating the bad habits the PT is trying to correct. I will also contemplate eating fewer Triscuits as I move about, obviously that is also important (unfortunately).
