Candida question

I think I understand this, but it seems to be a female problem. Being a heterosexual male is this something that I should pay attention to, and how do I test it? Then is there a male speck treatment?

My curiosity reigns supremer :-)

What I’ve read in the past is that it’s a type of yeast overgrowth. It’s different from the yeast infection that female get. I read that it’s very easy to self check or to request a lab test, but it’s hard to convince physicians to give test for candida overgrowth. The real quick way is to look at your tongue for overgrowth. Good luck and I wish you the best in seeking knowledge on this subject. The book Healing Multiple Sclerosis by Ann Boroch is an excellent read in the subject.

that is where I saw it, I shall look a little deeper and see what I shall see

Royjr is correct - it is a type of yeast overgrowth, and is much loved by alternative and fringe health practitioners who blame it for many things. It can be a legitimate problem - my ex-husband had it many aeons ago. However, be careful about getting caught up in the hype and claims around doing "candida cleanses" and special candida diets that roll-up into one bundle all of the current diet fads - they are about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike, and if you do have a true problem with candida overgrowth you'd do better to talk to your ordinary PCP and discuss getting some Nilstat. Checking your tongue won't tell you anything except whether you have a thrush infection in your mouth - and that does not necessarily mean that you have a problem with candida elsewhere in your body.

Some dietary changes can help if you do have a problem with it, but be wary of any book by any author which claims that it causes MS, or that diet (usually specifically their diet) will heal, reverse, or cure your MS. Despite those who subscribe to conspiracy theories about Big Pharma not wanting PwMS to get healed or cured, if diet could fix MS then there would be no need for this forum and we'd all be out there running marathons and climbing Mt Everest.

thank you, I am not sure I have a problem with it even though my tongue has been whitish for years. If I bother with treatment it would be pharmaceutical rather than any other source. Just going to wait and see, I am in no hurry, being miraculously cured might be rather inconvenient at my age

The And Boroch candida diet is actually quite simple and consistent with any anti-inflammatory diet.

And look at Jazinco's posts - she is on the diet and antifungals - she reports no more MS symptoms after 4 months. She is the one who told me about that book.

I actually got my Integrative Medicine PCP to test me for candida (I was inspired by Ann Boroch's book). And even though my candida antibodies were through the roof, the doctor ordered yet another 3-day stool test for co-pay of $229. I am going to see another Integrative Medicine doctor in a month specifically to treat my candida overgrowth. Ann Boroch said (and I believe her) that every MS patient has candida overgrowth. I had been on birth control pills for 20 years, took antibiotics like candy for flu and cold, ate sugar and dairy and all kinds of junk food and haven't been able to walk without assistance since I was put on mega dose of steroids for 6 months. So yes, there is no doubt in my mind that I have candida overgrowth. I have started the diet and will go on candida supplements in a month. Not trying to climb Mt Everest, just common sense.

Thank you, something I will look into when I go home

And we shouldn't listen to any Big Pharma inspired advice regarding candida overgrowth. My mom's neighbor and her co-worker in Europe have just been diagnosed with candida overgrowth. The co-worker has been suffering from terrible debilitating migraines for may years. They couldn't find the cause. But now they are saying candida overgrowth caused them. But in America, doctors don't want to (and I quote one of our blog members who asked her doctor to be tested for candida overgrowth) "go down that rabbit hole."

I don't know what you eat, but, even though I am not yet on antifungals, my energy level is back to "normal" since I started the diet. It's not really a diet, it's just eliminating sugar, dairy, gluten, regular potatoes and corn.
