Mirapex to replace Horizant.

Well. I believe I have a winner. I'm taking the minimum dose right now .125 mgs and I was told by the pain drs RN I can raise it upto .250 mgs. Monday if I need to. I'm gonna raise it because I have a little bit of RLS symptoms showing. Not anywhere near I was afraid I was going to have. Even the RN was not surprised that the insurance company pulled the crap of denying the Horizant. I'll meet the pain Dr at my next appt. The RN said they don't normally prescribe meds on the first appt. but with the insurance company denying a medicine I need they really don't have any time to waste. I'm glad I was able to find this drs office.

I take 0.88 of mirapex every night at 6pm, it stops the RLS, but just recently between 3and 4 pm my right leg keeps going into spasms and kicking out on its own, and it is so, so painful, in my knee and down my shin bone into my foot. I just hope that it’s not augmentation because it will be so hard coming off mirapex. I have been on it too long, but it gives you such peace from the restless leg. I hope that your transition from one drug to the other is smooth sailing, blessings Jimeka 👍

Thanks Jimeka. I started the Mirapex last Tuesday and have been pleasantly surprised with the transition so far. Is .88 really close to the top dose. It sounded to me that there wasn't a whole lot of wiggle room with the dosage to determine whether this medicine is going to be a help for you or not. I do hope you get your issue figured out. I shouldn't ever have the spasm issue with having a baclofen pump which has been doing very well at controlling the spasms in my legs. Which is why I have it. I couldn't find any oral medicine that would control the muscle spasms in my legs. That was a major issue. I've had the pump since 2014. It gets replaced in 2021. Every 7 yrs. Because of battery life. I'm not looking forward to 2021, the thoughts of surgery to get it replaced and finding a neurosurgeon to do it that isn't several hours from my house. That's not my issue, finding the surgeon who isn't forever and a day away.

O.88 is the smallest dose that you can take unless you cut them in half. I have been as high as 3 x 0.88 but never again, I did get augmentation, which my doctors don’t seem to understand, so I keep at .88 . All the best and I hope you have some peaceful nights sleep. Sorry about the long journey, fortunately mine is only 1 hour away, Blessings Jimeka 😊

I am learning so much on dealing with RLS. I am supposed to be taking baclofen 10mg, twice a day, but I found that at that dose, my limbs felt rubbery, so I only take baclofen once a day, before I go to bed. That seems to work for me. When I miss that dose, I find that my RLS acts up. With this post, I now know that there are other ways to deal with RLS. Thank you for this post. :-D

I didn't realize I had RLS until the Horizant got denied and my PCP started me taking Gabapentin and the pain got unbelievable. Then while doing research on what all the Horizant helps with. I found RLS being something it a works on. So I started taking the Horizant again when my PCP recommended I call a pain doctor when I asked him if he thought I should.

Be careful with Baclofen, it is in the category of meds that lead to dementia. Your doctor will know, it’s anticholonic ? That’s not how you spell it 😂

Good to know. What is anticholonic? :-D
