I started taking Ritalin for exhaustion and my inability to focus - I like it but what if I add back in Modafinil for an extra boost?

Ritalin 10mgs and I've noticed it really helps me to focus, but still a little draggey energy wise. what if I was to take the modafinil 200mgs an hour after the Ritalin? I've only been on the Ritalin for 5 days, do I might just be impatient.. Any suggestions appreciated!

It seems it would make more sense to increase the Ritalin. Maybe you need 10mg in the AM and 10mg in the afternoon. Probably not good to mix those 2 drugs. Let your doc know. I read that the max recommended dose for Ritalin for MS fatigue is 60mg daily and you are nowhere near that. Your doc probably started you out with the lowest effect dose. If you're drooping and not getting through the day let him/her know.

Lowest effective dose, that is.

I can get through the day, just wishing for a BURST of energy, but perhaps that is a "pipe dream"

Please talk to your neuro before mixing drugs. Everyone is different so what would work for me would not necessarily work for you. Modifinil helped with my fatigue but Ritalin did nothing for me. I’m not taking anything for fatigue right now because of insurance.

Modafinil was such a joke (for me). Ritalin has made my thinking SO much clearer/easy, but still tired, thus the thought of adding back in Modafinil, but will try just upping the Ritalin another 10mg take another after the first.

Probably shouldn’t mix? You could ask the pharmacy too. I take 20 mg up to three times/day. It’s my magic pill -usually take two per day-lifesaver! When I get tired, it’s time (half a tab at a time). You could definitely could be bumped up

I definitely wouldn't mix them. Talk to your Dr. Modafanil is the generic for Provigil. Have you ever been on Nuvigil?

My primary care doctor advised me to STOP taking provigil once I started taking the Ritalin she recently prescribed. ☺️🙏☺️

I successfully used ritalin for MS fatigue for years (20+). Recently decided to stop because of some annoying side affects. I was taking 10mg twice a day, after breakfast, then after lunch.

Now I'm trying to rely on using sativa/CBD blends (vaping) for fatigue. I live in a state where it's legal, and am fortunate to have an excellent dispensary nearby.

Does it help with your fatigue? I use it for my back/leg pain, when I get home as it makes me sleepy. I upped the Ritalin to 20 mgs and that seems to be working - time will tell.

The sativa strains of MMJ are considered to be helpful for energy or stamina. They do help me and it's pretty easy to regulate as time goes on. Cannabis can help with fatigue, spasticity, depression, improved sleep, neuropathy, depending on the strain. It think it tends to be a personal preference as to which symptoms need to be addressed. I'm starting my 3rd year with it. Also, I'm starting my 41st year with MS!

I love my Focalin - it keeps me awake and alert for most of the day. It definitely helps with concentration and focus.

Julie,

I found Provigil to be ineffective for me. My doc placed me on both extended release ritalin and immediate release as needed through out the day.

Even though I'm taking both I still need a mid afternoon nap or if I make it without the nap I'm in bed by 7.

It may help you more.

juliew19673 please DON'T mix drugs you don't know what will happen & it's not worth it. As others have said talk to your Dr. that is the best advice. I am praying for you.

I didn't after hearing from everyone here. I did up the Ritalin to 2X a day and that seems to be working well. Thanks for the prayers!

Modafinil keeps me from sleeping even if I take it early in the morning, and I cut them in half. And they cost $85 for so, so I stopped them.. but it did me hoparounslikethe little pink bunny

I never got any energy from Modafinil. I could take 1 with 2 cups of Strong coffee and immediately nap. Ritalin has at least kept the need to nap at bay!
