my 88 year old father lives in a independent retirement community, all the apartments have floor to ceiling cords you just have to pull for help, 3 in the bathroom,2 in the kitchen 2 in the bedrrom and 2 in the living space.I saw it in action ,when you pull it,everyone drops everything and starts running.we all could use that idea, but what do you do when you are alone....hhmmm I need to think on that.

answer for falling
One of those emergency buttons that you wear attend your neck?
I guess nothing is foolproof, but I like Iona60's idea about the medical alert button. I haven't fallen, but I do try to carry my cell phone with me (charged!) at all times. Sounds like your dad is in a well prepared place.
That's a good question! I keep my cell with me...but hubby doesn't always have his with him in the house. We love in a large house, and when I fall, it knocks the wind out of me and I can't yell loudly enough for him to hear me. . Twice I've fallen and dialed him to come pick me up and twice he didn't hear his phone. I just had an idea...I'd like one of those medic alert necklaces that you push the button on - but I don't want to alert medics coming - just my hubby. I'm going to have him build me one that wirelessly signals one of the smoke alarms in the house. He's an engineer - I'm sure he could do that. He'd hear that! And if it works, I'll have him market it and we'll become rich and ... ok, now I'm dreamin'.
Always, be prepared for the worst-case scenario.

thank you, I am so bull headed, and in denial, I just don't wnt another reminder I can't walk, but I do need to be smarter
Take it from someone who took too long to realize I needed more help than a wall to hold me up. There is nothing wrong with a ROLLATOR if you need one use it get one with a seat they are very useful.

That is when you have that button you push & holler "help I've fallen & can't get up!"
