Please watch out for everything and everybody! Take you some water, snacks

Don't forget phone charger for cell phone if you'll be driving.

Always watch your back. These days you never know about some people

Be safe out there.

BE SAFE! Carry hand sanitizers and stay away from others who look sick. Take snacks, water and a good book. And make sure you pack any meds you have to take daily. 😊❤🌷

when traveling overseas, I make sure I book my seat early and get an aisle so I can move around as often as needed (every hour until I fall asleep).

- Ear plugs, water are a must.

- I take my own food (light, fruits, and veggies) and stay away from airplane food.

- Dress with layers, you'll never know if/when you'll be too cold or too warm.

- I always wear a brace for my back, this has worked better for me that a puffy round pillow for my neck.

- Shoes you can remove easily and put back.

- Go to the bathroom before you board (I recommend this to anybody, regardless of ms because you'll never know how long you'll be stuck on the tarmac).

- Depending on where you're at with your MS, get arrangements to have someone pick you up at the airport or arrange to walk. I do the later because the last thing I want after a 10 hour flight is another 3 hour drive in a car. I prefer to take the train.

- Drink a ton of water and stay away from alcohol in the plane.

Have a safe trip!

Thank you, so much!! I’m planning to summons wheel chair assistance to zip me through the airport(s).

I will make sure to do exactly as you recommend!

Bring sturdy comfortable footwear. Take breaks and people watch. Take the cheesy city tour bus and listen to the audio. Visit a castle. Walk the bridges in London. There’s likely a special art or history exhibit downtown also. WC means toilet, some places you need to pay to use it so get coin early.

Don’t fall asleep on the underground. If you don’t have a locking purse or travel bag, you can use safety pins for your zippers, it will alert you to pick pockets in time. Photocopy or photo your passport and put it where you won’t be keeping it during travel.

Tell people you’re from Canada if they ask. Don’t wear brightly colored clothing or white shoes if you want them to believe you.

Sleep. Plan downtime. Sit in a park. If you do catch a cold or need minor medical treatment, it’s easy and cheap.

Nothing like traveling solo, GL!

Wow! Thank you so much! I will follow your advice to the “T”!

I forgot to add, don’t expect to understand their English right away 😂🤷‍♀️

That, and “free” walking city tours are usually well done by college kids, take enough cash to buy a snack for you and a tip for them at the end.

I’ve been hearing a lot about walking...I plan on scooting along!! I hope that won’t make my trip difficult!

Remember to leave pills in prescription bottles and have them in your carry on. Also tip money handy for people that help you, ones and fives. If needles have letter from doctor, makes it easier. They check more for international flights. I have a little sewing kit in suitcase. Leave room for items you buy. Hope you have a great trip 👍🙏🐾😉. Ken

Give me pointers when you come back. We're supposed to be going to Europe next year and as much as I want to go, I keep thinking of how I can't walk far.

Kj9681 in reply tomrsmike9

Well, I’m going to rent a scooter because, I can’t walk far myself!

My husband will be with me and we do have his mom's wheelchair at home. Perhaps I will take that. I wonder how they do those on planes???

Kj9681 profile image
Kj9681 in reply tomrsmike9

I was told to keep mine at home, and rent one because airlines damage them. I need my stuff! Lol... I’m not taking any chances!

All of the above are excellent tips. To paraphrase Mark Twain: "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in London." You are so far north there the weather will likely be chilly and intermittently rainy. When crossing the street, look both ways but pay most attention to the LEFT, not to the right! Looking solely to the right nearly got us killed several times. Also, kdali 's advice about saying that you are Canadian if anyone asks is right on the money. If you're going to do that, learn to say "eh (ay)" instead of "what" or "huh" or "right?" Also, say "oat" instead of "out." Don't wear any jewelry--not even your wedding band. (if you have one). Before I travel abroad, I go to Wal-Mart and find a fake plain gold band so that if I do happen to get robbed, I have something to give them at least. Closely guard your passport; you may also want to register with the American Embassy and just let them know that you are there and where you are staying, since you are traveling alone. And try to stay on the beaten path; when in doubt, ask the concierge at your hotel. They are also really good about recommending good restaurants, obtaining theatre tickets, concert tickets, etc. Visit the British Museum and the Tower of London. And most important, have a wonderful time and be safe!
