First time in this chat room. Looking for diet tips for my husband to increase his appetite.

Greetings all.

My husband was diagnosed with PPMS in December 2016. We went thru two years of being told that it was not MS because he did not have any lesions on his brain. He had a total meltdown at that time and became a quadriplegic within a couple months of his being diagnosed. He had to have two kidney procedures within a six month period that almost did him in. He was on hospice for eight months after those but has been off hospice and is relatively stable for the past six months.

Basically I would like to know how to improve his diet and try to get him to eat more. The meds he is on make lots of the foods he used to love unappealing to him now. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Wow. Sounds like the both of you have been through a lot. Glad that he is stable now. I often don't have an appetite because of meds. I try to pack nutrition into smoothies. Green smoothies may sound gross, but I can tolerate spinach as you can't taste it. After much convincing, my husband tried one and agrees. The secret is blending the spinach and the liquid first, then adding in the other ingredients Many good recipes can be found here.

There are many apps and recipes, but I use 2/3 c spinach, 2/3 c frozen fruit, 2/3 c milk. 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder.

A 🍌 will work in place of the protein powder.

Hope this helps.

Loss of appetite can be a real problem. I usually only consume about 800 calories a day, basically a starvation level diet. But nothing ever sounds good. If something strikes me as appealing, I hurry and eat it, before it stops sounding good. I have to agree that cannabis will certainly improve one’s appetite. Sorry I don’t have a better idea. Welcome and please come back often. Love, Kelly

Are there any fruits to make a shake, vegetables to grind in mixer to make soup. Sorry to hear about your husband. I also heard in 2016,but had a slow progression for many years. I will keep you in prayer.

I have a friend that uses KALE in her smoothies, and her kids LOVE it! It has been said that Kale is a 'super food', so you could try doing some smoothies with that, Also CHIA seeds could be added and not even noticed!

Your husband is lucky to have such a caring spouse ❤️😇! I am not an advocate for smoking of any kind, however cannabis extract taken at bedtime will help with sleep and appetite. It can be put in a capsule and taken with your regular bedtime meds, most of which are probably lethal if you took too many at once. People asked me how does it make you feel? I tell them I don’t know, because I am asleep. The same goes for the handful of pharmaceutical pills I take each night. If cannabis oil is not legal in your state, Blue-Bird Botanical sells pure CBD Oil online legally, since it contains zero THC. Good luck and remember that the benefits of cannabis can be accessed without smoking or eating a fattening brownie.
