Unable to scratch an itch and get relief

My left side is numb, but I still get itches now and then. When I scratch an itch on my left side, I find I have to scratch REALLY hard to even feel the scratching. I have on occasion accidentally drawn blood scratching. I am now more aware of this possibility and control my scratching.

Then, if I try to scratch with my left numb hand, my fingers fold under, and I cannot tell if or even how hard I might be scratching.

Ugh! Anyone else have this problem?

I have insatiable itches of my face and scalp. I find a wash cloth rubbed on the site is more effective than my fingers.
