Ocrevus and vaccines

I’ve posted this info before but didn’t have a study to back it up. Now I do. For those on Ocrevus, you need to understand what it is doing in your body: killing off B cells that express CD20. Vaccines activate B cells so with fewer of them, the vaccinations are less effective.

I'm glad to know that there is at least some response.

Yes...there is some response. My niece, who is an MD, told me that the best window to get vaccines will likely be around two weeks prior to an Ocrevus Infusion. The B cells will have somewhat built back up and it gives the vaccine time to do its work. My neuro has yet to tell me an optimum time even though I’ve asked.

And on a related note...After stopping Ocrevus it takes an average of 72 weeks for the B cells to build back up to an optimum level per the FDA.

yes you are right. I'm on Rituxan and I think I read somewhere that they suggested at least 6 weeks before treatment. I have to time it when I'm up for my vaccinations. Nice post. ;)

Good to know. I'm sure for a phenomenal vaccine.

Wow. 72 weeks is a long time. What will one do if they get cancer while on ocrevus?

72 weeks is the average. I don’t know what this means if someone were to get cancer.
