Tecfidera side effects.

I’ve been on tecfidera now for almost 3 week. 1 1/2 weeks on the high dose. The first week I only had flushing. Second week heart burn. Now I’m getting some stomach pains, nausea, and diarrhea. Not sure if it’s the meds or stomach bug. I figured if I was going to get that I’d have gotten the side effect sooner. I was wondering if anyone taking tecfidera experienced the stomach problems and when they started, and what kind

Yes, I had the exact same issues when I went from the low dose to the regular dose. After about a week on the regular dose I had bad stomach pains, nausea, loss of appetite, heartburn. It was so bad I had to stop. My doctor started me back on the low dose and is going to keep me on it for a month to see if it will help by body adjust. He said it is a very common side effect with tec. Hope you are feeling better!

Had a lot of the same problems and had to switch after two months to Aubagio. At first doctor was not sure, but when I changed all the side effects went away 🤷🏼‍♂️. Good luck and everyone has different side effects from DMT’s. 🙏👍😉🙏 Ken

I’m going to mention it more to my doctor next week. It seems a little better just more pressure In my upper stomach. It’s only been almost 3 weeks on if. Want to wait a month. He we could lower the dose Back to the 120. I’m hoping it’ll subside like the flushing did

I took tecfidera for 2 years. Make sure you are taking with food. I was also taking prevacid for other problems & it does help. You can ask your doc for a script. I also take sucralfate which helps in the colon. I have had a bad case of GERD over the past few years so I was already on those meds. At first my stomach was upset until I realized that I needed to take it with food. I didn't have anymore trouble after that.

I tookTecfidera for at least 3 years and I think maybe I had an upset stomach once. Question for you are you taking food with it?

I would let the company know what is going on, and I would call your doctor

Good luck!

I have been on Tecfidera for almost four years, when I first started talking it my Neurologist suggested taking a baby aspirin and eating about 30 minutes before taking tecfidera, it helps reduce flushing and reduces stomach problems. After your body adjust to the medication you can stop taking the aspirin.

Give it a try, hopefully you will feel better soon.
