Apparently, Ampyra and Tecfidera don't want to play nice with generic making companies:

I thought this was interesting as well. The VA was asking me for a different name for Tecfidera in order to pull it over to them from blue cross. I read everything on the bottle. The VA still hasn't pulled it over to them. There isn't a generic version of it and the person I was talking to was trying to insist that there is. Guess I'm right again.😁

There is another name printed on the label for Tecfidera. On mine, it says: dimethyl fumarate. But I think the main and easiest name to bring it up is Tecfidera.

My box says that too and that is the name that the VA wanted. But the lady I was talking to was convinced that there is a generic version of tecfidera and there isn't or blue cross would force me to be on that instead already.

Some people just don't understand or can't get it through their heads sometimes and it takes them a lot of convincing to figure something out.

At the same time, generics and brand names don’t play the same for everyone. I’m on ampyra and it’s like a miracle drug for me. I’d hate for my insurance to require I take a generic and have it not work as well. This happens all to often in the medical world.

I was on ampyra for several years through the patient assistance program which they discontinued but about 2 yrs before they discontinued it my husband made too much $ to qualify for the patient assistance program so my ampyra was cut off and I now lost my ability to walk and my life spiraled downhill because of this. Amypra cost $1200+ a month to buy...we could not afford this...it is so evil for drug companies to charged so much for medicines that people need for daily functioning.
