Drinking?

I was wondering if anyone drinks alcohol still? How does it react with the meds? How does it react with the MS?

It’s been a couple weeks since I last posted life has been really stressful and I have been feeling completely overwhelmed, upset, depressed and pretty much everything in between. I haven’t drank in prolly close to a year (quit just because never had a drinking issue) I just feel like I need some normalcy lol ... if that makes any sense. Just have really been craving a beer lately.!

I use to drink in moderation. I do think some medication say “no alcohol.”. Every blue moon I’ll drink some wine and because of bladder issues I don’t drink beer now. Because of my balance isn’t the best now I don’t need to get intoxicated, but remember everyone is different.

Ask your doctor, because every medication is different, and everyone reacts differently.

I heard the hops & barley in beer can exacerbate us or give attacks.. Red wine is really good in moderation & has Reversatrol in it.. We drink Pisano & sangria mix. They're so fruity & really help calm nerves...😎🍷🍷watt I am drinking. 😍

Totally on same page with Jamika's response. Once you have no doubt, I am with Jazzyinco*. Glass/glasses of wine to chill me out....usually had at home so thus, your safe- I'm safe- everyone is safe. Just sayin...

I have a glass of wine or two on occasion...I dont think it is hurting me...I think it helps just being able to sit with others or alone and feel "normally". Being 50 with or without MS my goal is not to get drunk anymore...Being g a mom to my 12yr old is more of a priority.... 😁

I understand what you’re saying. I’ll school what everyone has already said. I guess we always have to be careful about what we choose to help us cope, so we don’t create another problem.

No matter what you choose, I hope you find some relief from your stress.

Hey Jeremyhess1980 did MS take your drinking mylan? It did mine.

I used to drink like my papa. My daddy always said. And I could down them! And I was a fun drunk as long as I didn't have vodka. Anyway. All of a sudden, there was no 'Happy' middle ground drinking, it was pass out after 2 or 3 shots? And sooo sick.

My drinking nerve is broke😭😭 it's been over a yr now.😞😊🤗

I can't drink due to medicines and the damage it coud cause my liver and kidneys. I do go to therapy and I also see a neurologist psychiatrist. Quoting Sharon Stone we are a new person. She suffered stroke in two thousand.

I agree with what others have said. Check with your doctor about the interaction with your meds as well as your condition in general. And, no, you certainly don't want to create another problem or self medicate with alcohol. However, sometimes I joke that drinking can't make me any wobblier...is that a word?? I hope you are able to find a way to calm your emotions. I think many of us can relate to having many different moods. I can go from weepy and sentimental to angry to just plain chill and anywhere else within minutes. If I was applying for a job, I'd call that multitalented or ability to multitask!! Wishing you a beautiful day with sunshine and peace.

Every once in awhile I will have a beer or two as whine is not really what I like. Haven't had a beer since last summer though, no particular reason. Just make sure that its okay with any meds you take as some meds are not okay to mix with alcohol.

I always laugh when the intake nurse asks if I drink during an appointment. Did you not just hear all the drugs I’m taking?

I do miss a good bourbon or scotch. And a good beer. I do take some sips from time to time just for the taste but drinking a whole drink is a no go for the most part.

I totally understand where you are coming g from.

I have 1 drink (margarita) a year on my birthday. I do not do more than that as one of the kids I adopted has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome which is caused by birth mom drinking while pregnant. I tend to be a bit sensitive on this subject because I know, first hand, the damage that alcohol can do.

I aim for 3 glasses of red wine a week and I started because it's part of the holism study/improved results for MS with stress levels and relapse rates, I believe. I don't always remember to do it, but it's no different than before I was diagnosed, so I'm still a light weight. I'm on copaxone plus minocycline, and there's no issue with those meds for me.
