Really scared, is this an MS Hug?

Two days ago I woke up and my right shoulder blade pain had spread to my right side run cage and I have been in excruciating pain. It starts under my right armpit and down the right side. I feel like my ribs are broken. If I sneeze or turn over in bed I cry out in pain. I called my neuro and they just started me on a 5 day course of methylPrednisone. I'm terrified to my core. Will this pain stop? What if it spreads? What if it gets worse?

My ms hug was terrible a couple of years ago when I was relapsing and on solumedrol. Eventually, I couldn't take it anymore and went to the ER. They gave me an IV of Valium and sent me home with a prescription for it. Whenever that pain gets intense I take it. Luckily, it doesn't happen often.

suzy20 are you sure it's not your heart? You didn't fall or stumble and catch yourself and hurt your shoulder? Is your gall bladder ok? When I went to the ER I didn't think it was MS. I thought it was something else. It was the hug but I didn't think it could hurt that much. Good luck and please keep in touch!! J

Juleigh21 thank you so much for your response,,, I am 52 and was diagnosed 6 months ago. What does an ms hug feel like? My right side ribs are searing in pain. I have baclofen and a steroid . How do I know if this is a hug or temporary or relapse or permanent. It is so frightening 😢

In my case, the ms hug feels like a burning/searing pain. It's sharp and severe on my right side.

suzy20 Be careful. I really think if you've been having this pain for a few days, you need to be checked out by a doctor. ER docs aren't really familiar with the ms hug but they can run tests and make sure it's not anything more serious. My first 15 months after I was diagnosed was a roller coaster. Getting on the right DMT was life changing for me, but it took awhile and I had 4 relapses till that happened. If the pain is that severe, go get checked! I'm praying for you.

My first thought when u said shoulder blade was like Juleigh21 said: gall bladder

But then you mentioned arm pit and pain with motion, so I thought musculoskeletal. Hope u get relief soon. Do get it checked out.

P.s. My MS hug felt like a tight band with difficulty getting a deep breath...I guess can present in a variety of ways

suzy20 please go to the ER or your doctor and have the pain checked out. How can your neurologist prescribe you a dose of steroids over the phone without seeing you. It's on your right side, so as Juleigh21 suggests it could be your gall bladder that's playing up. Ms can be painful, but please get to see someone. Let us know how you get on, blessings Jimeka 🦋 🌈 🙏

suzy20 The ms hug that I get is like erash described, right around my rib cage, like someone is hugging you too tight. Mine came with a relapse. If it's from MS, it may be a relapse and it will probably go away.

I wish I could help you but I have never had the MS hug. Did your dr prescribe the steroids after he saw you in person or on the phone? Since it isn't stopping, I would want to be seen by a dr., either my neuro or at the ER.
