Question about spinal tap
@Sggmcswain
I don't understand the question.
I did have a spinal tap. It didn't hurt and they didn't find anything. It would have been nice to know all of the test that they do run when they did the spinal tap.
When I was first diagnosed, I had the opposite, Sggmcswain . NOTHING on the MRI, but positive on the LP.
I had the same as WAshingtongirl , Sggmcswain . MRI of my brain showed signs similar to that of diagnosis of MS after my vision suddenly went blurry, then onto Neuro who did all the other tests which showed nothing except for the spinal tap which was positive to be MS. Mine hurt really bad and ended up having to have a 'blood patch' because I had debilitating headaches from it...got sick to my stomach from the pain meds my neuro gave me.

I think it's all different for each of us. In the last year I've had 2 sets of Mri's of the brain, cervical and thoracic spine. With and without contrast dye. One lumbar puncture. Results are clear spinal, brain has 20+ white spots that have not changed size or shape, MS lesions T2-5. Doctor won't DX Brain lesions as MS. Feels spinal lesions are MS. I have most symptoms, legs and balance getting worse almost daily. Just trying to keep my spirits up. Best to you, Lynn
My spinal tap was negative and first MRI inconclusive. Now it shows lesions.
Sggmcswain yep, me too...normal spinal but lots of brain lesions 🙁
Good news is, amount of lesions does not equate to amount of disability...
Lumbar puncture was an unpleasant sensation but not painful. I did have a headache after and had to stay flat an extra day as I recall. The LP was considered to be negative for MS. However, my MRIs showed about 2 dozen white matter lesions in my brain and 1 in my cervical spine in a pattern consistent with MS.
I didn't need to have the LP because my history and MRI results met the diagnosis criteria.
