I grew pumpkins and gourds a few years. This particular year they all were amazing.

This is in front of the front porch.

Your picture reminds me of my grandma, she lived for gardening. She had every bulb planted possible, 2 active ponds with an artificial heron to keep the fish eaters away. She was out in her garden every spare minute, she lived to be 102. What reminded me most was the gourds, she trained them to grow up the side of her house, where the sun was most of the day. Thank you Morllyn for stirring such good memories for me, have a blessed weekend, Jimeka ๐Ÿฆ‹ ๐ŸŒˆ

jimeka , both you and jennie62 mentioned how Morllyn 's garden reminded you of your grandmothers' gardens. What lovely memories, and how blessed you both are to 'revisit' them today. An extra thanks for the photos @morllyn! I was doubly blessed today.

How wonderful to be able to grow so many. Did you use the pumpkins for pies?

No, just decorations. They do not always grow this well, the weather in East Tennessee has gotten so unpredictable the past few years. We will get a week of straight rain then no rain (or very little) for 2 or three weeks then, repeat all Spring and Summer. Most vegetables do not like that.

We spend our summers in the mountains in north-western NC, about 5 miles from the TN border.

The Tennessee/North Carolina mountains are beautiful. When my husband first brought me to this area, which is his home, I fell in love.

Hi again, Morllyn : ) I've gone through all your posts backwards ( Due to neighbour being home from hospital I have either been at her house helping or home, face down so I am way behind ! ) I have so enjoyed the tour of your garden - thankyou for inviting us : ) It is quirky, artistic, pretty, lush, productive - my kind of versatile ! : )

Regarding canning heavy water from the water butts ( I like big butts I can tell no lies ! ) you can get water butt to hosepipe fittings online, might be useful ?

I have spent the last few years laying flagstones on my soil flower borders, to put large plantpots on with herbs/small shrubs in etc. Much easier to keep control of with less bare border to weed and I can use a lightweight plastic stool to sit and weed the pots. I like to grow tomatoes, cucumber and lettuce in pots too : ) Where there's a will ...

Keep on growing and adapting : ) Angela x

You are so right, we have to adapt.

Our gardens will be much smaller this year, tomatoes and okra definitely, not sure what else. We planted Swiss Chard, garlic, beets and some basil today.

The rain barrels have a hose spout so we can water the beds that are close enough with it, until the volume gets low then the flow is so slow that I get so restless and just put it into watering pots and water the plants that way. I know, I should not lift that much but I get impatient.

I love the "Big Butts" song!๐Ÿคฃ
