Has anyone attended a "Can-Do Seminar?" Was it helpful? Informative? Interesting? A free vacation for $150? Any comments appreciated.
Can Do Seminar: Has anyone attended a "Can... - My MSAA Community
Can Do Seminar
I have never heard of it? What is it exactly? π
Yes please explain agapepilgrim. I also need a laugh today, blessings Jimeka
@jimeka sounds like the others explained what Can Do seminars are. I received an e-mail to put my name in the lottery. Evidently a lot of people sign up, but only a few are chosen (mmmm.....I think that is a scripture "many are called, but a few are chosen". I shall put my name in the pot and let you know if I am chosen, but just a little warning, I have never won the lottery--could that be because I have never bought a ticket? but my husband does every week!!). You want a laugh? That is difficult since I have been in bear mode for a few days. You know, hibernating. Ignoring ALL the advice giving to us by ALL the doctors, health gurus, det gurus, mental health gurus, MS gurus, and even myself research guru. You know the drill: get out of bed every day and get dressed. Eat greens every day. Stretch every day. Be social every day. Drink lots of liquids every day. Exercise body and brain every day. Be positive and thankful every day. Keep a journal every day. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Such wonderful advice. I wrote the book, you know? (Yea, right, well, I have at least a dozen of them in my library and drained dry 10 yellow highlighters!) But,but, but, ......after being a caregiver to my sicker-than-me sister-in-law down in Alabama because my less-responsible-than-me brother is sailing around the Bahamas in his own sailboat, I crashed as we all do and became a hibernating bear. Did I tell you I went on ancestry.com and found I am a direct descendant of the bear family? I eat lots of honey, love to swipe up fish from streams, and favorite pastime is hibernating under my down blanket for 3 days in a row! Set the alarm for 10 am to cancel mammogram appt today because there was 3'' snow on the ground and no one drives with 3' snow on the roads in KY! Good thing I am not living in St. Louis anymore or she might have not accepted that as legitimate excuse! But this bear was determined to hibernate since my down blanket weighed a 1,000 lbs and I could not move! (Another way of saying our friendly fatigue had fastened itself upon my body!) Well, @jimeka, curiosity did get the best of me, and I did lift my left hand (not right, since I remember it had the case of the dropsies this week) out and pat around for my companionable phone, scroll thru the notifications, saw your request for reply, reached down by the floor - with my left hand of course -, dragged up the pc, and tried to make the cold brain come out of hibernation, break the ice above the head, put a battery in the pink bunny, wind it up, and see where it would go. My English prof would say I am mixing allegories here, but then I would tell her my switchboard does that because it gets confused just like the "I Love Lucy" episode! Ok, time to chug down the coconut water by my bedside so I don't get dehydrated from hibernating in the cave. WHAT? I am taking the gurus advice? Yea, so I can shut this thing down and crawl under my 1,000 lb down blanket again. I do hope everyone is faring better than me, and I am sure there are those who are faring much worse, but I am taking a break from life til my body will walk again, or til my husband eats all the frozen meals I prepared, or,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
They provide great online webinars on MS. My neuro recommended them. I believe someone here attended one. (Is it Robert from California? I can't remember his name. Sorry.) He spoke highly of it.
Not a vacation but an intense period of learning how to live more efficiently and with higher quality with MS. Having Spouse, Caregiver or Significant other present is strongly encouraged as there are targeted sessions for them as well as for the person with MS. I have heard from a number of persons that it was well worth the time and effort and that those sessions that were held for the carepartners were "relationship" savers or at the very least quite helpful.
Thanks!
I've done the seminars, the trips, and the foundation paid for my carbon fiber orthotic ($2,500). Anything you can use/find to your advantage to help your quality of life should be utilized. I've meant many wonderful people, learned tons of information, and am larning to navigate diferent venues of assistance when I need it. Start by finding your local MS support group and if you don't have one, the MS society will help you start one. I couldn't find an exercise group for MS close by so I found an instructor and started one. This site is also an excellent venue.
