can anybody recommend a treatment for hand contact dermatitis, I have tried using an unperfumed base cream/ lotion, lavender and tea tree and although it helps for a little while nothing stops or clears it for long. I dont like to use steroid cream on a permanent basis and am getting desperate!

I use cetraben and my husband uses Numarks emollient cream. We have to use different creams as my husband discovered that he has better control with paraben free cream and I get on better with the pareben creams. Unfortunately it is a case of trial and error even with the emollient creams. We both have to use steroid based preparations when things get too bad but we try to keep it to a minimum.
Have you tried applying cream every time your hands have been in contact with water I know it's hard work but it does work applying the emollients as often as possible.
I used aqueous cream with lavender and tea tree as a general emollient and as you say it worked for a bit then it would all deteriorate again. Then I was given doublebase gel to use on arms and legs. Of course I was applying it with my hands and then washing my hands, rubbing the small excess into my hands as I did so. Result - hands in far better condition overall! So yes it is a case of trial and error - I have changed washing powders and now use Fairy non-bio after having problems with Persil non-bio.
