I have suffered with a skin condition called ichthyosis which leaves my skin on my body dry, and thick with scaly dark patches. The part that concern me the most are my legs. I totally get how you feel about wanting to wear pretty dresses and shorts. It becomes quite depressing over the summer months and sometimes I rejoice if it is dull and rainy!!! I have endured this for the best part of my life. May I know the name of your condition?

Hi Rebecca, I know just how you feel! I get so jealous of people being able to wear whatever they like! I can only wear cotton - wool and synthetic fabrics make me itch and flare so badly! even some cotton is a problem, clothes with blue dye seem to make me worse, and dark clothes just highlight all the gross skin flakes! Gah! I can't do make up either :-(

Hi I am new to this site. The skin on my face really can get me down as I cant plan ahead how its going to be on a day out or holidays. I Take holidays when the weathers cool as heat just turns me red and sore so I dream of holidays abroad cant happen now. I wear only cotton mostly but have problems with synthetic fabrics. Washing clothing and others with surcare as I have allergy to all fragrance,Lanolin alcohol.flush mines last about 2 hours. When I eat hot food hot drinks or get upset heat and extreme cold cant eat currys. I cant do makeup as my skins to flaky. Today is a good day so I am trying to take life with this skin a day at a time .

Wow it feels so good to know that i am not the only one that covers up! During school i cant wear anything, i feel so sad because i never get to wear any short shorts like the other girls, I have a great fashion style but i never get to wear anything besides shirts and hoodies in fear of the other kids seeing my skin...

Skin is your body's largest organ. It serves as a protective barrier between your insides and the rest of the world, helps regulate body temperature and acts as a filter. Skin exists in a constant state of growth, with old cells dying as new cells are forming. It's affected by every aspect of your life, from what you eat to where you live. Healthy skin is better able to fight signs of aging, heals much faster and staves off potential disease better than unhealthy skin

To keep your face looking as youthful as possible, you need to properly cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize your skin while never leaving the house without at least 30 SPF sunscreen. But before we go there, how you care for your skin is utterly dependent on the type of skin you have: oily, normal/combination, dry, sensitive or sun- damaged.
