Scalp infection and Amoxicillin

I've had a really uncomfortable scalp and beard infection for the last 4 years (red angry spots, some puss filled, which really swell up and are painful) and the only thing which really helps is Amoxicillin (which clears it up for about a month). But.... my doctor won't regularly prescribe it to me, because of the risk of overusing it.

I've tried a load of different antibiotics that have no effect at all, including Erythromycin, Minocycline, Doxycycline, different medicated shampoos and creams.

Even spent 9 months referred to a skin clinic, which didn't help.

But, nothing works as well as Amoxicillin.

Looking for help, advice or direction.

Thank you

It's really frustrating as of course there is concern about overuse of antibiotics (particularly for treating conditions where they have no effect such as viral infections) but they are absolutely essential for bacterial infections, and it's an issue if amoxicillin is the only one that is working for you. Hopefully you will get what you need soon.

Try using The Body Shop's Ginger Anti-dandruff Shampoo. This should reduce these symptoms you have even though it says Anti-dandruff. Use every day for 2 weeks, leaving the shampoo on the scalp or impacted area for 5 minutes before washing off. Try not to scratch, in case you are 🙂
