Acne, or something more serious?

Hi there, thanks for reading this. I'm a little worried as I have noticed a rash of what appears to be acne, across the upper side of my right thigh (see pic). There is a cluster of red bumps, on the pores of the skin. The skin itself feels quite tender and itchy. I am worried because I already have scarring on my buttocks from untreated acne that reared its ugly head around 5 years ago, and I am nervous that this new cluster will turn to scarring also. Has anyone experienced a similar issue, and if so please do share advice/solutions/opinions? Thanks so much!! x

Looks like folliculitis to me, usually caused by staph bacteria.

It's a bacterial skin infection much like acne and the treatment is the same for acne or staph, the doctor should put you on antibiotics until the spots have completely gone away.

Hi Simon, thank you so much - I have just searched folliculitis as per your opinion, and have come across an infection called 'Jacuzzi Folliculitis' which is caused from bacteria in the water, if the water is poorly treated. This makes complete sense as I was in a hot tub this afternoon after a session at the gym! Thanks for your help, I'm going to get some antibiotics tomorrow.

Yep, it's called hot tub folliculitis. That was the link I posted.

Best of luck, gyms are notorious for spreading staph.
