Making Jokes About Bad Thoughts

Has anyone else done this?

Uncontrollably making jokes about intrusive thoughts about bad things happening to family and actually laughing?

I am told my brain is just reacting to the punch line.

Has anyone else had this?

I am beating myself up and feel like such a terrible person.

Hi C_B_24,

I’m new here and just saw your post.

I use self-deprecating humour to get around the fact that I feel anxious, or to hide my compulsions from people, as if making it all into a joke and undermining myself will make it easier for me / other people to accept. Is that similar to what you’re experiencing?

Best wishes to you
