Has anyone with OCD tried adding a low dose anti-psychotic like seroquel to their SSRI, my doctor has mixed feelings about it.. just wondering if anyone feels like the combo of an SSRI & anti-psychotic improved their OCD or not?

I am on that combo along with a few others for anxiety and depression but it helps a little but remember to give it time it will take 2 or more weeks to get it built up in your system but I would ask your doctor what his concerns are it may be a health reason I know when I talked with my doctor he asked several physical health questions.

I'm on an antipsychotic called aripiprozole - 5 mg a day. And it really helps. I found that it gets me back to something like my old self - suddenly colours regained their brightness, as it were.

I had previously tried one called sulpiride, which I came off after it made me gain weight - 35 pounds! It didn't really make any difference to how I felt either.

Check out the ones that are offered to you, to make sure they don't make you put on weight. I should avoid sulpiride, as from what I read most people put on weight with it.

I was given Respiridone (spelling isn't right) and it was horrible. My thinking got screwed up and felt horrible. Was so glad to get off that stuff....!!!

Seroquel made an enormous difference for me, and in my case, it was almost overnight. I remember my shock at how much it reduced my anxiety and, therefore, helped my mood. I remember thinking for the first time in my life I felt happy for no specific reason. Like, just happy because I was alive and it was Wednesday and I was at work and it felt good to help people choose and buy books they'll like reading. At that moment, my head felt clearer, my thoughts weren't screaming in my head, and things just felt...okay. It wasn't euphoria or a "high". Just being able to think for once without my thoughts gnawing at me was delicious. I've been on it for years now and I still feel like it helps. It's still a low dose, if I go any higher I feel like a get too drowsy. I've been on a combo of Paxil, Seroquel, and Busparone for over a decade now. I'm not sure if I'll always stay on the Busparone since I don't feel like it's as effective as the others, but I haven't had luck so far going off it without an increase in anxiety so maybe it works better than I think it does. :) I see my psychiatrist regularly and my therapist weekly and together, I definitely feel in better control of my life, my emotions, more self-aware, safer, and better able to cope with my obsessive thoughts and keep my compulsive behaviors in check. Hope you have good luck with it, too!
