I am planning ahead and looking to accommodate eventual ground floor living. There will be no support from the local authority. I would really be grateful if:
1. Anyone would like to share any experiences of making such adaptations
2. Any recommendations of surveyors, builders etc in the SW London region

Hi, yes we moved to a bungalow that is very open plan to accommodate the electric wheelchair that we knew was coming. Wheelchairs are not means tested and neither are hoists, we got those free as well as all the equipment. But we built an extension with a wet room ourselves and fitted a wash dry toilet.
Hello - we have been down this road this year with my wife who is now confined to a wheelchair.
Good advice from OT essential.
NRS can assist in moving furniture etc. They moved her hospital bed and other items into the lounge.
With a good care company sending two carers morning and night to get her up washed dressed etc then put her back to bed, we are managing (so far quite happily) without a major re-design and installation of a wet room. They keep her very clean using the downstairs toilet and assure me she is cleaner using this method than she would be if she were showering herself seated on a commode.
For us that all incurs considerable monthly cost, means tested of course, but this is just to let youy know that it is doable.
