Alan has never had a firm diagnosis of his condition - maybe frontal temporal dementia, maybe one or more of the Parkinsons Plus conditions. MSA seems the best fit. He has been bed bound and doubly incontinent for 2 years now after being in hospital for a month with a UTI bordering on sepsis. I cared for him by myself at home for 18 months with carers visiting 4 times daily. Then I was unwell and felt I couldn't safely continue so he is now in a good nursing home. Guess what. Today he was rushed to hospital with a severe UTI with the possibility of sepsis. We contacted the GP 3 weeks ago with concerns but no antibiotics were prescribed. What are other people's experiences of bladder issues in MSA??

This sounds like a very difficult time for you and your husband. My husband is 79 with a probable diagnosis of MSA and recently lost the ability to urinate. I'm very worried about UTIs as he is now catheterized. I have read that people with MSA may not show the typical signs and symptoms of a UTI so go undetected until a person is very ill with it. It sounds like your husband's UTI was not treated promptly (even after you contacted them about it) and if this was my situation I would be looking for a new place for care. Take care, Ruffner
