does anyone else have problems staying asleep. I an only sleep for about 5 1/2 hours per night. Due to my med timings I try to stay up till 2;30 so that I wake around 8:00am. If I go any earlier I will be awake tossing and turning until it's time for my meds at 8:00am and 9:00am

Hi, My name is Rick and I have MSA. Sleeping can be a major problem with MSA. Multiple causes, including the disease itself, the medications, acting out dreams disorder. You need to order you sleep hours around you and not your drugs. If you require an additional dose, consult with your physician . Once that sleep pattern develops it is hard to change. Based on MSA Associations, my experience and MSA community boards.
Hello DavidI agree with Rick that sleeping issues do seem to be a part of MSA. Jackie had trouble getting to sleep and also had night terrors in the early hours. Jackie was prescribed Clonazepam for the terrors and that acted as a sedative as well. Having said that she still has trouble getting off to sleep very often still being awake when I, being a late bird, retire around midnight.
Maybe someone else has a magic trick that works for us both!
I have one more suggestion that I use myself and did not think to mention. Get melatonin 5% and take two before bedtime. I found it even better to use melatonin gummies. Nice to let melt in your mouth with a sweet gummie taste. Lay in bed, no TV and look into the darkness. I am normally asleep within 8-15 minutes.
I currently am on 4mg melotonin but don't think it has had much if any effect maybe I can get the Parkinsons nurse who prescribed it to increase it to 10mg
