Virtual Support Group Meetings

We had our 2nd virtual support meeting last Thursday for the Three Counties - Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire along with Oxfordshire. We had a great turn out and were joined by MSAT social & welfare specialist and the CEO.

Lots of talk, support and information. We meet again next month, first Thursday at 2pm.

If you’ve not attended a virtual meeting before I would really recommend it - no traffic, no struggling into a strange place, eat and drink whatever you want...what could be better!

Take care, stay alert! Ian x

I think there may be two good things to come out of covid. the virtual meeting which could develop into larger events covering hard to reach areas and just maybe I will never again hear older people say things like. Oh I don't use the internet If I want to send an e-mail I get my son to do it. Maybe part of the advice to newly diagnosed people will be make sure you are internet savvy - nothing fancy but I don't know how I would have managed without it then or now.

A friend of mine was running IT for seniors courses and not geting too many bookings. I suggested that as you get older you need more practice at something completely new. If you friends dont use e-mail you can't practice and the new skill dies.

I got her to offer a months unlimited email conversation to her newly qualified students and that was really useful to them in helping to fix what they had learned

I 100% agree Freda. My mum who died a couple of years ago at over 90 loved tech things. She played word games with friends on the internet, used FaceTime and had remote switches for her lights and curtains.

Now in the Google and Alexa age these things are even easier.

Our virtual support group meetings have been a real success with everyone agreeing we should meet monthly rather than quarterly. I suspect some of our virtual meetings will continue well after lockdown ends. Take care, stay alert...Ian x

Can’t wait until we get a virtual meeting in the north east. We have missed a couple of meetings so it would be so good to catch up.

Give Nicole in the MSAT office a nudge and I am sure she will arrange one. I had thought of suggesting a virtual meeting for those on HealthUnlocked who want to attend - what do you think?
