I was diagnosed with PV last year. I have been on hydroxycarbamide for 10 months and haven't had a period for 6 months. I had a blood test to see if I was going through an early menopause and it came back that I am not as well as a scan which said the same. Has anyone else had this problem?

Periods stopped...
Yes, I had the same thing as it can cause an early menopause but with no such luck my period returned to normal once my body was used to the meds about 8-12 months after I started them.
not sure if this helps but my periods stopped prior to my PV diagnosis when my bloods were poorly controlled and presumably thicker than usual, then started again once my PV ws diagnosed and HCT back to near normal. At this time i was not on HU.
Thank you very much for your replies. It's reassuring to know that other people have experienced the same thing or something similar.
Yes I've had a similar thing. I was diagnosed with ET and started Hydroxy about a year ago. My periods virtually stopped. Later, my dose reduced and my periods were back to normal (Slightly erratic but that's normal for me anyway!). My dose has gone up again and I havent had a period for a couple of months again. I am 49 so I'm getting to that age but so far there does seem to be a correlation. I will be asking about it at my next appointment - much as its great skipping a few, i'm not sure that early menopause is a good thing?
Thanks for your reply. The hudroxycarbamide actually made me go through an early menopause after numerous tests. I'm now on pegylated interferon which I find so much better than hydroxycarbamide and interferon alpha. I have a lot more energy and even have a part time job now. All the best. X
