Has anyone had a pregnancy with ET?
Hi there,
Congratulations! I have had 2 pregnancies whilst having ET. I was age 34 when I had my son. I was on Interferon injections 3 x a week and had a section at 34 weeks as my placenta had packed up and not feeding him. He was 4 .5 pounds.. I then miraculously conceived 2.5 years later and again still injecting with interferon. My daughter again was born by section at 35 weeks and 3.5 pounds. Both babies went to SCBU but were fine. My placentas were very small due to ET the consultant said but you will be just fine. I had very little water too. I would advise just to keep an eye on the ball regarding that issue. I had heparin post delivery and was fine. Good luck and let me know how you get on

I have a 6 month old and fell pregnant a few months after diagnosis (I also have a 9 year old and I'm sure I had it then too looking back at blood results). My only treatment was aspirin which I stopped at 32 weeks and went on to clexane (heparin) injections. I had a normal birth at 38 weeks to a healthy boy 7lb 8oz. I continued on clexane for 3 months after the birth and my platelets have remained stable, I'm still breastfeeding so I haven't restarted the aspirin yet so I'm being monitored, my last plt count was 502! It's never been that low for a long time. So just enjoy your pregnancy and have regular checks! Ps I did have extra scans as there is a small risk of clots blocking the blood flow to baby so I had one at 24, 28, 32 and 36 weeks to check growth, there is a protocol they should follow with ET so ask your haem consultant and make sure your obs consultant is aware of it, as I can guarantee none of the midwifes will have heard of ET!
Many congratulations on your pregnancy, I was diagnosed with ET the year before I fell pregnant; at the age of 39. I was put on a baby aspirin in the second trimester, my counts were around 600 at the time. Stopped taking it at 32 weeks and was given nothing else. I was booked in to be started off on account of my age and not the ET. Fortunatley my daughter was having none of it, and I went into Labour on my own an hour before I was due to be started off. Everything was normal. I had extra scans also and amnio, but again due to my age and not ET. I restarted the aspirin again when I stopped breatfeeding. My counts are still the same, well I hope they are, due to see haematologist in a couple of weeks. I wish you a very happy and healthy pregnancy.
Hi thank you so much for sharing your experiences with me! It has really helped reassure me that all will be well and no reason that everything will be ok. My consultant has said will be getting extra scans every 4 weeks after my 20 week scan to check on growth and that no clots in my placenta etc - also great to know I can breast feed whilst on heparin after he birth as really want to give it a go.Sending best wishes to you and your families - thanks so much again!!!
