Hi,

No I haven't been taking both but I'm very interested to know how people get on taking both as my haemotologist is talking about this for me and my next review is at the beginning of September. I have been on Hydroxycarbamide for just over 6 years and my platelets are rising with my neutrophils and haemoglobin falling to such an extent that my haemotologist feels that the best way forward is to add in Anagrelide as he doesn't feel he can increase the Hydroxycarbamide anymore. I'm not keen at all!!

Best wishes,

Hi

I took both for a short while but had to give up on the Anegrelide because of side effects. I am now just sticking with Hu but also have problems with haemoglobin and both red and white counts falling. It's a bit of a tightrope juggling the dose to keep on as even a keel as possible

Good luck with it. Not everyone gets the side effects!

Yes, I have been on hydroxycarbamide and anagrelide since 8/8/2011. ( I take hyd 1.5gm/1.00gm alternate days plus 0.5mg Anagrelide every day). Prior to taking this combination my platelets were 895. I was diagnosed with ET in august 2000 when my platelets were 1700+. I seem to be luckier than most, even with high platelets my health has always been relatively good, however, I will be 75 in January.

I have been relatively stable since changed to this dose, and have kept pretty well during this period. Generally I have been fairly lucky health wise with few side effects, although I have had a few bad experiences in the last 2 years with stomach bleeds and suspect TIA'S. The stomach bleed was put down to long term usage of 75mg aspirin. The TIA'S were due, I think to the period they were experimenting with my medication, but this was never suggested or confirmed The good news is I consider myself almost 100%.

I took Hydrocarbamide for about 3 years and because of drop in red cells had to witch to Anagralide...which I have been on for the past year. I only take one tablet per day and had side effect of headache only on first day...I am fine since and platelets have dropped to 380 otherwise they range from 450-650

I only take Anagrelide as I had such a bad reaction to Hydrocarbamide......... I have had to stick with it, but things seem to be settling down now.

I was started on Analgrelide for ET when first diagnosed in August last year, they were effective at first but by Christmas my platelets were climbing again and I was having all my usual symptoms along with heart palpatations. It just became totally ineffective. I was stopped immediately and put on Hydroxycarbamide and things started to settle down again. Although I am always tweaking the dose as we haven't yet found the magic number.
