I live in Australia. I first used the above injection first time in July 2024. In the last consultation with my specialist he reduced the frequency to once a month from two weeks frequency as he was v satisfied with the outcome. Also I had venesection too. Now the injection is not available in Australia.
I am supposed to take one next week and subsequent to that do the blood test and consult the specialist in two weeks time.
I checked today too and it is not available in Australia.
It is not an issue. That will give an opportunity to assess how blood results are and also to look at the results so consultant can decide whether it can be managed with some other different means.
however, I would like to know from other country friends whether it is available in market now. I know it was not available overseas few months back. When it was not available overseas it was available here.
I believe there is a time lack in getting up to date supply here. I believe we are some months behind overseas. I may be wrong on this.
Pl let me know about the situation overseas pl. looking forward to hear from you.
All good so far here any way.
warm regards
Stoosh.

There has been a change in ownership of the patent for Pegasys. The new company is not prepared to begin production yet. It was known that this would be an issue. Some healthcare systems appear to have planned and stocked up in advance, but not all. What you are experiencing in Australia is not unique. It may be 6 months or more until Pegasys resumes production. Some healthcare systems have decided to make Besremi available as the interferon that is approved for PV. Another option is Jakafi in systems where Besremi is not approved.
Wishing you success accessing a suitable medication.
Unfortunately Besremi is not approved in Australia and even if it was the cost would be around AU$10000 as it is not on PBS , Peg costs $600 in Australia after PBS it is $32
So the only option from 1 March 2025 if full shortage is expected as announced by TGA is reduced frequency of injections and if not available other treatment HU that I was on and am not looking forward to that
Hi OZland once again thanks for update with more details. I have submitted my first order to the company providing the customer delivery. I am pretty sure they will contact me and take it further and deliver on time.
Actually you put me on the right connection to place the order. Unfortunately the chemists were not able to provide that level of details to me. I contacted two chemists prior to receive your message. Any way all good with your great support and advice.
Yes I was warned by my Heamo specialist that from 1 October chemist would not be supplied with Peg due to expected shortage to manage it better and gave me details to Justmeds
I looked at the site you referred to and looked at some of those in forum. Unfortunately I found out the same ie Pegasys is not available in Australia and possibly not available until mid 2025. In addition I noticed that the alternative what is being used in Uk is also not available here according to the forum.
However, it is not that all bad.
There will be some alternative solution will arrive .
Once again thanks for letting me know the site and details. So I can look at those as well. Certainly there are good information and I will join as well . I am not a member at the moment . Cheers .
Thanks for all who responded regarding availability of It in Australia.
Thanks for all.
It would have been easier for every one if chemists inform patients about where to and how to obtain it once the decision was made to supply it that way.
It is only a v simple thing to do .
Any way this forum has provided all necessary assistance and put in the required direction - connection to obtain it. I haven’t received yet. But placed order.
V simple minor change in communication and procedural arrangement would have made things easy for all.
Any way , it is not bad as this forum provided all assistance.
