RSV vaccination: Is anyone getting the RSV vaccine. - MPN Voice
RSV vaccination
I already had the RSV vaccine. Got is last May prior to working at a Summer Camp for kids with medical conditions.
Had mine October..no side effects.
here is the govt site on it, if you haven’t already seen it. I think it always handy to read the info before taking a medication so you can make an informed choice.
gov.uk/government/publicati...
Bear in mind side effects are grossly underreported as it relies on us the patient to fill in the form. Drs generally don’t have the time and of course may not know someone had a reaction if they haven’t been told.
Best wishes
Yes, I have been reading the info, having had the pneumonia vaccine I thought that was the same as the RSV, I now realise they are different. One being for bacteria, and the other for virus.
I had heard there could be bad side effects, but none of my family have had any so far.
Fingers crossed I won't either.
Thanks for your reply.
Hi I received the RSV vaccine in Oct 2023. According to the CDC this should last for 2 years. No issues except my arm was a bit sore for a day. Same for pretty much all the vaccines I’ve had
Yes, I have read the 2 year info, was under the impression that it was a one off vaccine.
The experts don't know yet on its durability as it is new. Initially they hoped for long term protection but it is looking like its effect wanes, albeit much more slowly than the flu or covid vaxes. At least two years is the latest guidance.
I got it recently, at the same time as tdap. Sore arm and a day of feeling blah, no big deal.
I was about to get the RSV vax about a month ago. The day before I was getting it, I actually got RSV! It wasn't that bad for me. I've wondered if I should now get vaxed but have gotten mixed answers
Maybe you should ask your consultant or specialist nurse.
I have asked a few different doctors including my local hematologist & MPN doc....some say to get vaxed 2 months after I had RSV, some say I now have immunity for about a year, some say I now never need to get the vax.
My sister had it a couple of years ago at 92. It was so hard to breathe she thought she was going to die. Her son finally took her to a clinic. The meds they gave her beat it and she did not have to go in the hospital, but it was hard on her.
Are all those responding over 75? I was told by my gp that only the over the 75’s can have the RSV vaccine. A bit off I’d say as most of us with an Mpn have very much compromised immunity. Louise
Reading the RSV vaccination guidelines, there is this paragraph:"adults turning 75 years old on or after 1 September 2024, who remain eligible until their 80th birthday"
Well, as I read it that would include anyone under the age of 80 right down to babes in arms! I doubt that's what it means though!
I don’t think it does.
I was told that only adults over 75, pregnant women and babies are eligible in the uk - plus those who have reduced immunity.
I would suggest that each gp surgery will make up their own mind.
I m asking my haematologist to write to my gp. I lost a total of 7mths in ‘22 and ‘23 to bronchitis and then pneumonia. Don’t particularly want to do that again.
Suggest you contact your gp !
I received this injection last month, no side effects at all. They give it to pregnant women at 28wks to protect the baby when its born from RSV
Do you mind me asking how old you are Charlie? And if you’re in the US? Thanks
I am 64 , (in the U.S.A.) I got my RSV along with my flu shot last fall at 63. No problems, usual sore arm...one in right arm one in left 😊
