Good morning, I have been diagnosed with chronic myeloproliferative disease a year ago. It was discovered after a general medical check-up (raised platelette count).
I am on Hydria (1000mg daily but 500mg on Mon/Fri). All bolld counts normal for year now.
One thing that has been bothering me - about the same time of blood results I had two molar teeth (1 left/ 1 right) developing an absess (painless) at the same time . This was also discovered when normal dental word was done and X-Ray showed the problem.
Now, year later and tinittus in my ears started from nowhere with under chin gland swelling. I have a suspision that there could be a problem (absess?) below my upper molar now.
Anybody had teeth problems going hand-in-hand with myelofibrisis?
My teeth are healthy and in good order - never had teeth issues before.
Regards

I’m sorry to read that, RietFontein, dental problems can be a headache 😞
I have ET J2+ and I have had gum problems. I have a number of implants/crowns and a bridge tho my gums have been sore. My dentist referred me to a Periocare specialist. He did an intense clean on my implants and bridge.
I returned recently 3 months later and the infection/inflammation had reduced which is wonderful. I used special cleaning/flossing items each night as instructed. It takes awhile and my gums do feel a bit sore. However my last visit he said the gums are no longer infected and the inflammation reduced. There is still some colour difference in my gums tho he had given me some gentle toothbrushes to use in an area on either side to brush where the gums are more intensely sensitive.
It’s a pain as it’s time consuming, tho I try nightly to do as asked and keep them as clean and happy as I can.
I don’t know if this is related to my MPN at all.
I am on 45mcg Pegasys every 10 days and this has brought my platelets into the normal range quite quickly.
I had an abscess a couple of years ago that took quite some time to find. I had bad breath for what seemed an eternity (had so many tests and my tonsils removed) and no one could find the cause. Eventually with a cone Xray they found a problem on a root and I had the tooth removed and an implant done. The bad breath disappeared thankfully. I have had rising platelets for years tho with having hashimotos the docs just thought it was from that.
I’m not sure if my reply helps at all. Sending best wishes 🌸
Wow, I hadn’t heard there was a connection before. I used to be on a higher dose of Nexium for some time for reflux going back some years tho after changing my diet over time, I managed to stop the need for them.
Won't believe it either! But then I got the following:" As acid reflux causes inflammation along the throat, this can affect the reliable function of said tubes. This can cause tinnitus or hearing loss. In some cases, it might even cause pressure in the ears too. As such, ENT doctors will consider all causes before trying to find the correct treatment pathway."!Tegardd
