Hi, my platelets have been reducing during the last 12 months and wondered if anyone else has experienced anything similar? I had a slight reduction a couple years ago after my Covid vaccine and booster but not had a vaccine in the last year.
I am only on aspirin and simvastatin, 64, pretty fit, slim, active and vegan. I have not changed anything over the last 12 months except maybe a slight increase in exercise.
Has anyone else had platelets go down?
Thanks

It is normal for platelets to cycle up and down. Platelets can change by as much as 100K in a single day based on what is going on in the body. My platelets used to cycle from the 500s to the 700s. They could go the the high 900s when I was experiencing additional reactive thrombocytosis. Suggest reviewing your degree of cycling with a MPN Specialist for the best case-specific explanation.
I'm about the same age as you and have had PV Jak2 for over 20 years in which I've been on 2x aspirin a day. Like you I'm also fit, active and fairly slim. Back when I was diagnosed around age 43 my platelets reached 1700 and ever since have been trending downward to 700. I forgot to ask my hematologist on my last visit why this is so. Interesting! Don't have a explanation. Kerry
Similar to you (age68), I'm on 75mg aspirin & simvistatin. Active, healthy diet. My platelets have been under 500 for over a year . No venesection required in 9 months.
Simvistatin has anti cancer properties even though it was intended for cholesterol. I suspect that it is helping your MPN. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/343...
