More medication????

Hi,

I have Jac2 ET and Menieres Disease, take Hydroxy, Copydogrel, Lisinopril and Betahistine Dihydrochloride.

Have been very stable with no side effects since starting Hydroxy about 9 years ago. Have moved to new area and GP suggests I need to take Lansoprazole in case of stomach bleeds.

Having looked at the side effects of this and knowing I lead a normal life now I am very reluctant to start this.

Can anyone comment please.

Many thanks, Jenny

For what it's worth , I've been on hydroxy and 75mg aspirin for many years for ET, (plus assorted other meds for other minor stuff) but when I turned 50 apparently the recommendation for lansoprozole is automatic because of stomach bleed risk from aspirin , I dont know if clopidogrel carries same risk . I take the smallest dose , but figured it was probably as well to have that protection after decades of aspirin use , even if it's enteric coated

Hi. I have ET and Jak2 and take Hydroxy. I was taking a low dose aspirin but my cardiologist changed this to clopidogrel.

Oh that's worth knowing Kevmince, thanks for your reply, I am still undecided as have no symptoms and the counter indications look a bit scary for lansoprozole.

The decision to use a PPI as prophylaxis is a judgement call. I use esomeprazole to treat GERD. It works and I tolerate it well, but it does interfere with the absorption of some nutrients such as magnesium, Vit B/folate. If you decide it is in your best interests, you may want to do a nutritional evaluation after taking it for a while as a precaution. This is what my GI-NP recommends.

many thanks Hunter, value your advice, think I might check with my haematologist too before I go ahead
