Does anybody know of anything nutritionally that will protect the kidneys like Milk Thistle protects the liver?

I imagine there are supplements that could help with kidneys depending in the issue. The best thing I know of for kidney support is water. Plain old H2O is essential to kidney function. It flushed out the toxins. Limiting exposure to toxins, including alcohol, is also important.

Morning!

I agree with Hunter. Water.

However I’ve just googled supplement protection for kidneys and various options came up inc Cytoprotect from Cytoplan. I ve no idea what this is but you could have a look?

me again. Not knowing what your issue is…… you could always try a functional medicine practitioner. Again take to good old Google but do be careful because you could end up paying quite a lot of money for tests.

HOWEVER - these practitioners are thoroughly trained, very knowledgable and know their stuff. I have consulted one myself re histamine intolerance.

Again, might be worth a go? I would never though, abandon a traditional haematologist (ie your Mpn consultant) in favour of a functional medical practitioner.

Please let me know if you’d like a recommendation. Louise

Check out NAC. I had elevated kidney labs and my functional Medicine Doctor put me on NAC. MY labs are back to normal.

Filtered water can be the best way to aid your kidney function but you might want to read up on how to detox things that may have already accumulated in your body, such as the effects of heavy metals or mold. Regular sweating is also very useful to rid yourself of the above. I use an infrared sauna to get the deeper sweat that comes with more intense exercise. Lots of sweat without the heavy breathing. 😉

Interesting question...after my success with milk thistle, my GP actually approached me proactively after a high uric acid reading. He suggested first and foremost to make sure I am drinking enough water (not other liquids but water) and when I said yes, he suggested a compound that contained tart cherries. He said it was good as an anti-inflammatory and could also help kidney function. I worked with him and a holistic doctor and they came up with a tart cherry and turmeric combo..definitely check with your MPN specialist/GP before taking any supplement.

Solyesh,

I had been drinking tart cherry juice every day, but the quality of the product declined so I stopped. I will find another (better) source, and get going on it again.

Thank you
