I’ve just recently received my latest blood test results which came back with elevated basophils of 0.13.
I’m PV, Jak2, low risk, 42yrs old and havent usually seen basophil counts on my report, so can’t trend back to see if this is a new thing or historical…
I know PV can drive higher counts for basophils.. has anyone else noticed this?
awaiting a conversation with my consultant, but whilst I wait wanted to get some perspective from this very wise and knowledgeable group!
all the best

hi Steve. I have ET. They thought it was turning to PV but it has now settled as ET. I have always had high basophils. Just recently bloods have improved greatly and they are now just in normal range. My Mum who doesn’t have our condition always has high basophils too but doctors never query it. I am not sure what basophils do so will be interesting to see replies that you get
I have always had mild basophilia along with the PV. It is just part of how PV can present. Basophils are leukocytes that defend your body from allergens, pathogens and parasites. If this is a change for you, then it may be your body is fighting off some kind of infection. If it is historical, then it may be part of how your case of PV presents.
Checking basophil levels is part of a routine CBC. Suggest that you contact your MPN care team and ask about this issue. They can give you the best feedback on your status.
thank you! I’ve just spoken to my consultant, they’re not worried.. in fact they reenforced exactly what you’ve said.. it’s only mildly higher and all other counts except HCT and platelets fine!
Will keep monitoring in the background now I have this new datapoint 😊
