Increase platelets : Hi everyone never posted... - MPN Voice
Increase platelets
The jump of 100K following an infection sounds like reactive thrombocytosis. This is a normal response to an infection, injury, inflammation or other trigger for increased thrombopoiesis. Your platelet levels cycle every day by as much as 100K. It is the trend over time that matters, not any one bump on the CBC.
My platelet levels used to routinely cycle by 200K. During periods of significant reactive thrombocytosis, they could jump by as much as 400K. Platelets are more stable now that I am on Besremi, but the still cycle by as much as 130K on a regular basis even in the absence of a known trigger for reactive thrombocytosis. I do not worry about it since this is normal platelet function.
Wishing you all the best.
Don't worry Annma. It is the nature of platelets. Blood is a very mysterious thing...makes the brain seem comparatively simple (ha ha!).Best wishes.
Hi personally it was for that reason I liked to keep mine around 425 mark. I also felt much better for it to.
So presently it could be due to you being under the weather. Time will tell.
If it’s worrying you I’d request another blood test in 2 weeks time and if high discuss with your team. Im sure that’s what my clinic would say and do. In my opinion You are on a low dose of hu do try not to worry if it does get increased.
Fluctuations of 100 or more are normal and can also be influenced by hydration or time blood test was done, haems always say look at the trend never base anything (including worrying ) on one blood test
Thank-you for all your replies it's difficult when you've no one to talk to about it
Hi Annma - You’ve gotten great advice here. I can only echo much of the same. My hematologist only gets concerned if my platelets jump over 500. Otherwise he says whether they’re 300 or 480 - it makes no difference. I was told to expect these fluctuations as everyone explained above. I’ve been on Hydroxyuria for about 2 1/2 years with minimal side effects. Just wanted to say I’m out here with these other kind people and we’re here for you. Warm wishes, A.
Hi Anna, hope you get on well, I have been on Hydroxy for about 6 years, Jac 2 positive too. I was really shocked at first that this was what would be suggested for me to take but I really can say that it hasn't interefered with anything in my life. Used to take just 5 a week but these didn't lower my platelet numbers so I now take 3 a day every day.
Wishing you all the best, its good you have found this site, very helpful.
Kind regards, Jenny
