This article is simply pushing an agenda. People have been using gas stoves for a long time. The ultra processed food that's prepared in many kitchens does way more harm than gas stoves. Get government out of our kitchens! This is for control over the population and has nothing to do with health.

exactly right

Yes

I think they just want you to have very good ventilation or air flow in the room or the home, kind of the bottom line I took away.

interesting article, there has been a view since a long time that benzene may play a part in MPN. If a gas oven does indeed emit benzene ,well, it’s up to the individual but I would be changing it. I don’t think it’s politics or trying to control the population as somebody else has posted here.

It would be interesting to see if people working in kitchen s etc have higher rate of cancer rate.As of politics would try and control population!!!

yes they do. I attended online one of the UK MPN conferences and actually certain workers rated higher for MPN.

Obviously we very born with a flaw that makes us more sensitive to things others are not. I took some photos of the slides years ago, if I find them I will post.

Hi there, do you remember what workers tested higher please? I want my partner to change his job i worry about his chemical exposure, he also has PV

Hi sorry a quick google search should yield more info. I was a cook in a kitchen for 20 years with all gas appliances.

Remember this is something that has progressed slowly in your body and hopefully can be controlled or corrected with medication. I was in a different department when I was pregnant with my daughter. I have two sons also that are very healthy and happy. Kind of the luck of the draw. The rest of my many brothers and sisters are fine. Just my interesting genetic make up, I guess and well my daughter obviously got it from me.

Advances in medicines and testing means they catch things earlier and hopefully you get a jump on some issues.

Good luck. 🍻

I switched mine out to an induction cooktop last year, mostly because I couldn’t handle how dirty the gas one got and how long it took to clean it. I love it! Regardless of whether the government and enviros are pushing an agenda, the induction cooktop is awesome! It’s clean, neat, and even calming without the sound of the gas burners going. :)

Sorry, I believe very little that comes out of the Guardian. In my opinion they definitely have an agenda behind everything. Just my opinion.

I have never had a kitchen with gas stove nor have my parents yet I have ET & my dad has marginal zone splenic non-hodgkins lymphoma so obviously gas stoves are not to blame in our case.

I don't think the article is suggesting that benzene is the only cause.

Yes I am sure you are correct. Best of health to you both. ❤️❤️

Interesting, but not on the same subject ..I have Myelofibrosis and my Dad had NonHodgkins Lymphoma…haematologist said no link between the two.

I have PV and 22 yr old daughter has ET. I am on Pegasus and feeling great- a bit itchy occasionally but fabulous. Daughter on watch and wait and aspirin. Aspirin rid her of the crazy headaches which was her biggest issue. I have a large extended family and I certainly hope no one else ends up with anything blood cancerish!! And don’t kid yourself they are related in some way, they just aren’t sure how. Many family blood cancers in this group. 😎❤️❤️❤️

Thank you for the link. This is interesting and worrying. Pretty obvious when you think about it but being around gas stoves all our lives I can't say I have ever considered the dangers. Whilst highlighting the risks now may sit comfortably with government policy and yes (according to several comments here) they probably are using it to push an agenda, I am more concerned that governments would have known about this for many years and because it fitted at the time, didn't do anything about raising awareness. It's a bit like people turning a blind eye to smoking and now vaping. Anything containing chemicals that you are breathing in are a big risk.

The biggest concern for me is how they are leaking even when switched off - that is impossible to manage! However, it has certainly made me think about giving my extractor hood a good scrub and making sure I switch it on EVERY time I use my hob.

When I next need a new hob I will go for electric. What is the point of trying to eat healthy when we are breathing in all these pollutants in our own kitchen?

I think that having good ventilation is the best solution.

I found the link interesting. A few replies have suggested that this all part of an "agenda" but the Guardian, whatever your politics, would definitely not be supporting an agenda of a Conservative government! There is a link to the original research within the article, which at first glance seems to have been done in in USA.

As for the research itself, benzene is known to probably cause some blood cancers, but I don't know whether MPNs are included.

It is on the list. Big BUT obviously we have a flaw already happening in our bodies so chicken or the egg ??
