Hi all, just a bit of help required please. me and my wife are off to Greece from the UK in August for a week, I have started looking at travel insurance and was wondering if anyone else with Primary MF has taken out a policy and with which broker/insurance company. I am guessing that to be honest on the application that I should tell them that MF is a terminal disease (as that is what I understand it is without a SCT)?
Hope someone can help me
Thanks, Chris.

Please be aware Staysure are inefficient and very slow in dealing with claims. Their policies are administered by Ergo Travel and claims are dealt with by Davies Group. I had the misfortune to be hospitalised in the Far East last October. I had to pay the £8000 hospital bill. It took over 4 months and many phone calls/emails before the claim was settled. The support from them whilst I was in hospital was atrocious. I reported them to the Financial Ombudsman and won my case. I would not recommend them for this reason
I have MF and am on Watch & Wait. My house insurers offer travel insurance alongside house insurance and were happy to cover me (age 74 on renewal). I also have other comorbidities. I would describe MF as "chronic" rather than "terminal" unless you are very high risk. Check with your doctor.
Best always to check with your consultant. However I have post ET MF and a number of years ago after the insurance company agent asked (presumably a computer generated question after I declared it) whether it was terminal I asked my consultant. She quite firmly said I should say it was chronic. She actually looked a bit horrified that I asked but it is alarming to be confronted by this question on the phone and we are always being warned to declare absolutely everything.
Thabks for reply, I'm waiting for response from Staysure, I did declare terminal but they seemed OK with it as prognosis was well past 6 months from our return date.
Hi there, I am insured through my bank at a monthly cost and they have charged me a top up fee of £300 plus for the year. This is a huge jump from ET to MF, previously, was paying £87 top up for the year. I couldn’t get annual insurance elsewhere, so would be really interested to hear your outcome. Take care. Penny
I have Primary MF with very low red cells and platelets. I have used Just Travel and stay sure which ever is the cheapest. I declare that I have MF but they only concerned if you have had an unscheduled hospital visit. Had insurance every time incudes going further afield China Japan India and the Caribbean etc. my advice for what’s it’s worth is live life and enjoy. Crossing a road can be terminal so get out there 👍
don’t assume it’s terminal, chronic yes but as with all MPN, we may die with it as opposed to from it. I use Able travel with PV or Voyager, they have a telephone number which is answered fairly quickly by bright enough people you can understand what they are saying. Happy holidays and remember to cover up and use factor 50 etc😀
