A quick question...are dog was scheduled for a kennel cough injection today. Before administering it, the vet asked if any of us were immunosuppressed or had health conditions that required medication to manage. The treatment to be given to our dog is called Versican Bp plus oral. It's a live bacteria virus called Bordetella bronchiseptica. The vet said virus treatment remained active for two weeks after it is administered. The bacteria could be passed on to immunocompromised individuals.
Just wanted to know if anyone has come up with this issue. Many thanks Lorraine.

Oh man - I would never have thought of this. My dog just got this on Monday and has been happily kissing my face for 3 days since. Interested to hear what others think.
Or maybe I’ll be the unknowing Guinea pig with this one.
Thank you very much for providing this article link. I never gave thought to what our little schnauzers get for vaccines that could be bad for me. Their bordatella is the nose spray, always done in vet's lab away from us but have no idea of any precautions taken ie cleaning their muzzle, etc. afterwards. I am always learning from postings on this site. Very much appreciate sharing of information.
Hi Lorraine, yes I have, my vet did check with me years ago and they remember every year now that my dog can't have the kennel cough vaccine because I am on Hydroxycarbamide and have ET and therefore can't be exposed to a live vaccine. Best wishes, Maz
Do you mind me asking if it’s the ET or the HU (or both?) that is the concern with live vaccines? Should someone with an MPN never get a live vaccine?
I was only diagnosed a couple of months ago (ET JAK2+, though they’ve not ruled out pre-fibrotic myelofibrosis - waiting to see an MPN specialist in October and hoping for clarification then) so this is all still really new for me. I’m just trying to learn as much as I can, and this site has been so helpful!
Hi, it's because of being on Hydroxycarbamide, so cannot have any live vaccine myself, and cannot be exposed to any live vaccine.
It can be very daunting when you are newly diagnosed, there is such a lot to learn, I hope that the information on our website is helping you mpnvoice.org.uk
Yes if you are taking Hydroxycarbamide, Anagrelide, Ruxolitinib, Busulfan, Inrebic (Fedratinib), Interferon. Before having any vaccine you must always check whether or not it is a live vaccine. Maz
Wow this is interesting! I have dogs and no one has mentioned this ever. Do you know if you only have to be careful around your dog for a set period of time after it is administered?
hi Bridie123, my vet has always said that my dog can't have any live vaccine because I am Hydroxycarbamide, so I can't answer your question, sorry. Maz
That's so interesting, as my baby grandson has just had a rotavirus live vaccine, and my daughter was told that I can't change his nappy and have to wash my hands after holding him.I have ET and on hydroxycarbamide So very similar to you .
Just another thing to worry about while I'm dodging the sun ! 😂
