Hello All, has anyone with MF and JAK2 encountered slow wound healing, possibly caused by dysfunctional platelets? Cheers Tim

Hi, thanks. I have the reverse issue with platelets in the normal range but that's not telling the full story it seems.

hi, I’ve only got Calr ET . No problem with wound healing. Wishing you well.

I'm in the same position as you with MF Jak2. The other thing you can take note of is your platelet count. When this low which it can be with MF, it will affect healing. I've been having regular blood tests and I do notice the needle site is slower to stop than before. You may also notice bigger bruises if you give yourself a light bash.

Hi Scaredy, thanks, yes but my platelets are normal and luckily I haven't been affected by bruising or healing of the needle puncture site or bruising yet. I'm putting my money on dysfunctional platelets for the time being until I see my specialist in Feb. All the best and Happy New Year.

Hi Tim. I am on hydroxy and blood thinners. Platelets good at 480. Wounds heal slowly and I bruise constantly with no idea how it happened! I have wondered if some of it is down to taking lots of steroids over my whole life because of other health issues. I had shingles 18 months ago and still have a scar! Good luck and Happy New Year x

Hi Conneryfan, thanks for that, there's something going on here for sure. I'm on Jakavi and blood thinners but have not been taking steroids except occasionally topically. Good luck and Happy New Year to you too.

Hi. I’m also MF Jak2+ and don’t heal well. I’m told part of the reason is my Hydroxyurea & having cancer. I have additional health problems also that affect healing. My problem is unrelated to platelets as far as I know. They’re in the normal range.

Hi Katie, thanks very much. The body is evidently an extremely complicated thing, and understanding mechanisms properly is similarly extremely difficult for specialists, let alone us patients. For me understanding why I'm experiencing certain symptoms is preferable to not doing so. All the best.
