Hi everyone, I’m wondering whether anyone has tried the natural phenol, Resveratrol, to help their platelet reduction? I’m calr positive ET on Hydrea which I hate taking for its toxic effect . My haematologist just continues to increase the dose to try to suppress rising platelet count. However I have read that several clinical trials prove reduced platelet levels can be achieved with low dose Hydrea in combination with Resveratrol. My haematologist claims not to have heard of it but I spelled it out for her and she’s going to look into it!
Resveratrol and ET: Hi everyone, I’m wondering... - MPN Voice
Resveratrol and ET
I tried it before starting hydroxicarbamide. Along with other natural things . Don't know if it's compatible with hydroxi. Didn't lower platelets so VERY reluctantly started low dose hydroxicarbamide every other day.
I do take turkey tail mushroom powder as some
Mushrooms are said to help counteract effects of meds ..
Ps . I'm interested to see articles you read. ..
Hi Mostew, I found the information in PubMed under “Resveratrol and low dose hydro tires. How much Resveratrol did you take? It seems like 250mg daily needs to be the minimum. Don’t really want to fund this myself but maybe will if this months platelets have risen on my current dosage of 500mg daily Hydrea.
Can't remember. . It was liquid . Maybe a teaspoon .... tastes nice. !
My supplements supplier has sent resveratrol to me and I have been taking it for a few months. My platelets have come down to normal, though I am triple negative. I'm still taking aspirin but I don't believe I have ET.
It's the haemoglobin that bothers me, as they have gone down to how they were a year ago, despite the EP injections.
Hm. how much were your platelets before you started the resveratrol and how much now?
How much resveratrol do you take and how often?
Which form is it?
I know resveratrol is well known for battling cancer, but I’ve only seen studies on Tumor cancers, not on blood cancers. I’d love to try.
We have to make sure to take powerful antioxidants further away from meds as to not knock them out, but to assist them in doing their work.
Would be grateful for more information.
There is this post that discusses Resv. Nothing definitive, but here was the reaction from my MPN specialist:
"I just had my quarterly Hem visit. Among many things, I asked about two supplements, NAC and Resveratrol. He's fine with NAC, which is my main interest. But he was quite strongly against Resv. I was skeptical of it myself, but this is another note to be careful with it. As always there may be patients who are suited to to it with Drs approval"
